Pape 7 THE AUSTIN AMERICAN -Saturday, Fehrnsrv 1B. South Austin Club Outlines Its City Improvement Plans ties and location and grouping of the units on a plat chart. At the conference Pinkney gathered data on what was required for the plat chart and said Friday he expected the detailed plans to be forwarded Wednesday for final FPHA approval. Si SSr-i! I City Signs Contract For Public Housing City councilmen Friday signed and forwarded to the federal public housing authority contracts and the authorization to execute the contracts for erection of 26 dormitory-type housing units to be erected on the Butler tract. Mayor Tom Miller said the contracts and the authorization in the form of a resolution by the city council were forwarded as requested by the FPHA to expedite construction of the 130 units to house veterans and their families.

C. C. Pinkney, city planning engineer, is expediting detailed plat plans for the location and grouping of the units. Pinkney has just returned from a conference with FPHA officials in Fort Worth on plans needed. The FPHA requires, Pinkney said, detailed plans showing utili iiilMWMtffTfrTlBsWsBWMilsaMslsMsWWMii 11 if IWIMII H.

I llsMI Citywide improvement projects as well as several projects for their section of the city will be supported by South Austin Civic club members, Carl Besserer, president, said Friday in outlining the organization's program for the future. The club will work for construction of the low-water dam and hydro-electric plant on the Colorado river, for development of the lake front to be created by the dam, for construction of the proposed new interstate highway through Austin, for a new municipal auditorium, and for a southern extension of Lamar boulevard to connect with US Highway 81 south of Austin. Particularly is the South Austin club interested in the development of the Butler tract, located on the south side of the Colorado river, and will work for location of a proposed new municipal auditorium to be located on the Butler tract, Besserer said. The southside organization has been on record for some time as favoring the new interstate highway and Besserer indicated approval of the highway department's plan for routing the highway down East avenue, across a new Colorado river bridge, and skirting Travis Heights to the east, continuing southward to a junction with the Austin-San Antonio highway. Councilman Simon Gilljs, a South Austin resident, is opposed to the highway department's plan.

In the southside club's immediate program is work toward location and construction of a new Southwest Austin playground and recreation center near Becker school and toward construction of the new St. Elmo community school. Besserer outlined other South Austin improvements the club is fostering: An underpass where West Mary street crosses the Missouri-Pacific railroad tracks, a hospital and bank; additional traffic lights for South Congress and a branch city library. Walking Rummage Sale Pleads to Governor For Right to Work Billy Whiskers Scnnell, walking rummage sale, is in town to see the governor and he's pretty mad. Circus barger, artist's model and professional good humor man, the yellow bearded long-haired Billy lost his good humor when police ordered him out of three towns in the Valley. That is what he wants to see the governor about. "This is a free country this is America, isn't it?" he said acidly. ii oapL fr CJUmdeAL PREMIER Vy TEA 4 Oz.

Saundera Lorkhart Dr. Mason Reed HadMey Danny Hsrland Darryl Hickman Leick Thome Chill Wills 20th Century-Fox has knocked itself out on Ben Ames Williams' "Leave Her to Heaven." It's a bright, beautiful, shiny apple of a picture, all pith inside. More than anything else, it's a case of over production. Never was technicolor more artfully handled, rarely have settings caused so much ohing and ahing. seldom have so many pretty, well groomed people cluttered up the screen.

The dazzle i simply too much. Few stories, even Mr. Williams', could stand up under such treatment Mr. Williams' book, however, was a natural for the screen when his publishers began throwing the phrase "Hers was the deadliest of the aeven deadly sins" at the public. Williams' chronicle of the possessively jealous witch Ellen is fast moving, intriguingly skillful story telling, while the screen translation is an exhaustingly slow, jagged narrative.

(The sight of her charging on a horse sowing those ashes is nightmarish.) Passionately jealous, she drowns his crippled brother and insults her family because they interfere with honeymoon privacy. She hurls herself down a flight of stairs to end her pregnancy and finally commits suicide and makes it looks like murder by her cousin (Jeanne Crain) whom she suspects of loving her husband. The husband eventually goes to prison for withholding knowledge of Ellen's crime against his brother. In 20th Century's version, it hardly seems worth the effort. Cornel Wilde, best known for his impersonation of Chopin, acts as if he is sure it's not worth the effort and Miss Tierney's impressions of happiness and anger are almost indistinguishable expression.

The role of the cousin Ruth was hardly written for an engenue such as Miss Crain. "Leave Her to Heven" wiy undoubtedly ring up more profits than any picture of the year. Its ads are well plastered with the word sin. 'Dakota' A Republic picture, produced and directed by Joseph Kane, screen play by Lawrence Hazard, adapted by Howard Etabrook from original story by Carl Foreman, with the following cast: John Devlin Wayne Sandy Vera Hruba Ralston Captain Bounce Walter Brennan Jim Bender Ward Bond "Jersey" Thomas Ona Munson Marko Poli Hugo Haas Bigtree Collins Mike Maiurki Mrs. Stowe Olive Blakeney Nicodemus Nicodemus Stewart Carp p.ul Fix Slagin Grant Withers 'Lieutenant Robert Livingston Devlin's Driver Olin Howlin "Dakota," it says here in the press book, is a magnificent drama of America's last frontier.

It opened Friday at the State, and if this is magnificent, if this is drama, may Abbott and Costello win the Academy award. This time instead of cattle rustlers, scowling John Wayne is fighting crooks over wheat land in Dakota. The meanies burn out the wheat farmers, drive them out of the country and blame the raids on the Indians. John is honeymooning with wide-eyed Vera Hruba Ralston but what's a honeymoon when honest people have to be defended. John, with the usual amount of fists and bullets, makes Dakota fit for decent folk.

There's nothing like magnificent drama to put one to sleep. Bus Line Asks Voiding Of Rival's Wartime Permit Wartime overcrowding on buses of the Kerrville Bus company, no longer prevail on that company's runs between Austin and Victoria and between Kenedy and La Grange, according to the Kerrville Bus company's suit to enjoin the Continental Bus System from operating on these routes under a railroad commission permit granted Continental Dec. 13 on file in the 126th district court. The Kerrville Bus company said it is already providing adequate service on these runs and that permitting Continental to operate over these routes would result in a loss of revenue with a resultant reduction of bus service on the two routes. In support of its application for injunction against Continental, formerly Bowen Motor Coaches, the Kerrville Bus company said its buses now are running only about 40 per cent loaded from Victoria to Austin via Cuero, Yoakum, Shiner, Gonzales, Luling and Lock-hart and only one-third loaded from Kenedy to La Grange via Runge, Nordheim, Yorktown, Cuero, Yoakum, Hallettsville and Schulenberg.

On the latter route, the Kerrville company said it is now barely taking in enough revenue to pay operating expenses. or DRIP COFFEE STOKELY CATSUP TZ SOOP TO NUTZ BY LOMIS SLAUGHTER That beaver business has all been cleared up. There ARE beaver on Marshall Ford lake. My fren and ex beet and butter merchant August Peters tells me that he saw a beaver up on the lake shore recently and he knows he was sober. I mean. Peters, not the beaver.

And as about a dozen more have phoned in with about the same sort of report (about the beaver, not Peters) that must make It official. Peaches, pancakes, alligator pears, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and hares, pickled peppers, apples, plums, peanut butter, chewing gum come in and shop in one of these leading grub shops where the atmosphere is pleasant, the food attractive and prices most reasonable. We're not interested in HOW you get here but we ARE interested in seeing you here. You may ride a burro, a city bus, come in your five-year old limousine, or even walk. Fact is that might be best, for then you'd burn up a lot of energy and would need more fodder to build you up again.

We're interested in any movement so long as it involves the consumption of food. Apple cider being a food, I'd like to recommend it to you for a starteroffer or enderupper for the day. It is the pure juice of ripe apples with the stinger taken out just so you won't be going off and making a fool of yourself which you wouldn't be doing anyway. Also we have the untarnished Juice of the tomato, the prune, the grapefruit, the orange and of all things, kraut juice. Capital is simply accumulated labor in a negotiable form, and labor is nothing but negotiable capital in an accumulative form.

In a way you can't hurt one without hurting the other. When a man goes out and labors for a day for $1 or $5 he is a laborer. After supper he dolls up and goes out and spends that dollar or five and then he is a capitalist or a damn fool, depending on what he spends it for. Equality between capital and labor is always and must be based upon the fundamental principle of good wages for good work and goad work for good wages. It's a 50-50 proposition.

I'd like to sniggle you into the purchase of a smoked shoulder of pork this week. These wonderful gems of the joints are smoked to a golden brown in our locker plant and you just can't beat them for something good to eat. When you've had several meals from it you can use the bone to cook with vegetables or to crack Junior's head with when he pinches little sister.
