THIS JFEEK Amfriran-fclatfiimaH Sunday, November 10, 1957 Austin, Texas-Page AST Comedies Take Spotlight In Austin Film Calendar A as an after-hours playmate. In keeping with AB-PT Pictures' policy of bringing new screen personalities to the fore, "Eighteen and Anxious" stars four promising young players in the leading roles. Moviegoers who like their fare aprinkled with laughs will be especially well rewarded this week, because, aside from a new film about teenage problems and an offbeat-type Western, the local Mary Webster, rated a particular ly hot discovery, plays the tormented title character, with William Campbell, a new teenage favorite, portraying the playboy bandleader. Also in the starring quartet are Jackie Loughery and MARY WEBSTER JACKIE LOUGHERY STARTS 7:00 HO I-620 i OPEN 0:30 1 film calendar will pretty well run to comedy. One of the exceptions is "Eighteen and Anxious," the picture which will be opening one of its early US engagements Tuesday at the Paramount Theater with five stars from the film on hand for the event.

(See related story elsewhere on this page.) This new AB-PT production promises a somewhat new approach to the current trend toward pictures centering on the activities of today's teenagers. It concerns a pretty young high-school senior who. after an ill- still known for his "Picnic" performance, and, in a special appearance, Mickey Rooney. Lending a gay Gallic touch to the lineup of new pictures will be "Maid in Paris," a new French import opening Thursday at the Texas. This film, which features pert Dany Robin and Daniel Gelin, is described as a sort of French "Moon Is Blue" involving a naive school girl who comes to Paris to see the sights and ends up in the company of a sophisticated wolf.

New York critics have rated the film one of the sharpest screen comedies to come out of France! in several seasons. Opening a first-run engagement at the Varsity Sunday is "The Happy Road," a light-hearted comedy made in Europe about a happy-go-lucky American who is drawn into a romantic arrangement with a comely French divorcee through the maneuvering of his young son and the divorcee's daughter. Gene Kelly, making one of his non-dancing appearances on the screen, stars in "The Happy Road" as well as functioning as its producer-director. Supporting him are Barbara Laage, blonde Ron Hagerthy. Rounding out the cast are Martha Scott, Jim Backus and Jackie Coogan.

The only other non-comedy film on the menu this week is "The Tin Star," a Western which is due for a Saturday opening at the Paramount. This one, a product of the William Perlberg-George Seaton team previously responsible for "Coun explosive adventure in the A 1 JlyL fated marriage which made her a i mi try Girl" and "Bridges at Toko- mother at 18, becomes involved south seas Ri, stars Henry Fonda and An- in a torrid affair with a jazzy bandleader until she realizes that he's interested in her only tnony perians in a tale oi a hardened and weary ex-sheriff who overcomes his callous atti tude toward law enforcement to back up a raw young sheriff forced into a show-down with an Pert Parisian star Dany Robin (upper left) holds down the title role in "Maid in Paris," saucy French comedy at the Texas Thursday.
