The 31-year-old Colbert, whose only previous victory in seven years on the tour was in the 19G9 Monsanto Open, finished with a 13-under-par 271 for 72 holes over the Tripoli Golf Club course. One stroke back were Grier Jones, Johnson, Bud Allin and Courtney, whose closing 64 was the tour-nev's best round.

Colbert had started the day tied for the lead at 11- under with Johnson, 2 strokes ahead of Allin. Colbert made his decisive move with birdies on the 8th, 9th and 11th holes to go 14-under before he bo-geyed the final hole for his 271. His victory was saved when Allin missed a birdie on 18 when his third shot from over the green just failed to drop, and Johnson's 7-foot putt for a birdie also missed. Victory for the one-time Kansas State University football player raised his 1972 earnings to $43,574. San Diego's Deacon Jones, the rejected Ram, was thinking positive the other day at lunch, still a bit distressed over the trade that took the 33-year-old Secretary of Defense out of L.A.

It was blown up out of all proportion. I have an old Ram playbook myself." Jones on the Rams defense he left behind: "It should be pretty good, but I think I know where you can find some holes." Date of the great reunion is Sept. 2 in San Diego. It may be interesting. Thumbs Down: Dodger first baseman Wes Parker, telling UPI's Milt Richman why he admires chessman Bobby Fischer: "I like him because he has guts," Not bad.

If rudeness, egomania, childish tantrums and whining double-talk make up a display of guts, Fischer has 'era Parker himself, a man with real courage, wouldn't be caught dead acting as bitty Bobby has in Iceland You'd think that Fischer is about to unveil the cure for cancer instead of merely performing an isolated, meaningless skill that has little to do with molding the destiny of the planet What they all should have done in the first place is get either Marlon Brando or James Caan to make Bobby an offer he couldn't refuse. Thumbs Up: The name is Mike Henry. He was a Ram linebacker, 1962-64. The club's 1964 press guide says: "Henry, 6-3, 230, 6th year pro. Attended Bell High and USC.

Born Aug. 15, 1936 Switched to middle backer early in '63 season, Mike enjoyed fine year and was second only to halfback Eddie Meador in interceptions Ninth round selection by Pittsburgh in 1958 draft. Came to Rams prior to '62 season. Part-time actor." Shortly thereafter, Henry quit football at hi3 peak to become a full-itme actor. Well, sort of an actor.

He signed up as one of the many Tarzans. In sub-' sequent years, old pals have mostly kidded hira about his roles But no more. Mike, working alongside such an old pro as Charlton Heston, holds his own and emerges now as solid star stuff as the copilot in "Skyjacked" also featuring another old Ram, Rosey Grier, as well as Yvette Mimieux and that classic rat, James Brolin Mike even gets the girl. Good deal. The Rams will be at full strength for the first time today.

The veterans reported to camp Sunday. After 25 years CIC DEN'S is closing his doors forever. HOW DRASTICALLY REDUCED. Everything was Sweet and Love-ly as the Rams and the Charger: rookies scrimmaged for 90 minutes Sunday at Cal State Long Beach. John Walton, who ha3 spent the last two years on the Rams' taxi squad, threw two of three touch-, down passes one to Sweet and one to Love.

Walton; who came to the Rams from Elizabeth City, N.C., hurled a 12-yard touchdown to Joe Sweet, a rookie from Tennessee State, and another for 6 to John Love, a second-year player who was with the Washington Redskins last year. The Rams played only offense. Walton, who drew praise from coach Tommy Prothro for his work, completed 10 of 19 passes for 133 yards. The other Ram 'quarterbacks were Buddy Lee and Mike Yancheff. Lee, recently acquired from the Chicago Bears, hit 5 of 11 for 79 yards, including a 27-yard TD to Tom Graham, a rookie from Baldwin -Wallace.

Yancheff, from Rutgers, completed 5, of 13 for 50 yards. Top rushers were Albert Schmidt of Kansas State (Pittsburg), with 13 car mm htt a A wf a 3.000 PAIHS Flats, Lsaftrs. 04 often tasuls S1SSQ Jll.tl1l 95 I Em MEN'S ECLF SHOES Rag. Big Ben's Reg. NOW 36.95 24 88.

Answer Man: Every fourth year about this time the period between the U.S. trials and the Olympic Games people suddenly discover our track athletes are running meters instead of yard3. Most Americans remain helpless when it comes to meters, and it doesn't help that the U.S. employs the metric standard only during Olympic years Anyway, as another offering in the endless public services you often find here, we give you the word, courtesy of Norris and Ros3 McWhirter. Please clip and take with you to Munich for the Aug.

The U.S. is still several meters short of its needed bankroll Call the financial section for the difference in dollars and marks. Dodger Dilemma: Most fans and other assorted armchair experts seem to be convinced now that Walt Alston's constant juggling of positions and lineup switches are the prime key to Cincinnati beginning to run off and hide again in the National West, that the confidence of such promising youngsters as Steve Gar-vey, Bobby Valentine, Bill Grabarkewitz and Billy Buckner i3 being twisted and tangled beyond repair.

It's a point The Dodgers, as has been said before, may be a victim of too much talent and the indecision over which to use where and when But Alston has been this route before, and the manager heard few complaints during pennant years Another reason for the current travails, more to the heart, may have been supplied by Frank Robinson when he was asked recently in New York to compare Baltimore, his ex, with the '72 Dodgers, his now. Robby: "How much difference is there between the clubs? Quite a bit.
