Both Soviet representatives won their ninth-round matches, according to a report from London. The victories made their final scores 7-2. Smyslov completed play undefeated with five triumphs and four draws. Keres won six games, drew two and lost one, to Andrija Fuderer of Yugoslavia in the sixth round. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHESS LEAGUE The Los Angeles Chess League held its annual meeting at the Hollywood Chess Group headquarters last Thursday evening. On the agenda was the change of name to Southern California Chess League and this was unanimously accepted by the 13 representatives present. Election of officers followed.

Irving Rivise was re-elected president: Charles E. Gray re-elected vice-president. William Wheeler, re-elected treasurer. John Keckhut re-elected youth director, and Kyle Forest was elected secretary to succeed George Goehler who unable to continue due to business commitments. The next meeting will be held at the Hollywood Chess Group on Friday, Feb. 4. at 8 p.m. at which time entries for the and team matches will be received and final plans will be adopted for the annual team matches which will begin the week end of Feb. 19.

Angeleno and Russians Not Cold in Chess War HASTINGS, Jan. 8 (LP) Two American airmen and two Russian chess masters acted like friends instead of representatives of rival sides in a cold war here. Sgt. Arthur Spiller of Los Angeles and Lt. John Hudson of Philadelphia took part in the International Premier Chess Tournament this week, as did Grandmasters Paul Keres and Smyslov of the Soviet Union.
