The President had no immedi-. ate announcement on the "very im' portant" new government assignment he has in mind for Connally. The President did not immediately disclose details of the new assignment, but' it probably will be a Job that wift keep Connally in tha public eye. Nixon apparently foresees a role for Connally in the upcoming political campaign. He is considered by some to be a possible vice presidential running mate, speculation that Connally and Republican figures say is unrealistic. Connally said he would attempt to organize disenchanted Democrats behind Mr. Nixon's re-election. He accused the Democratic presi- dential nominee of Mr.

The world champion from the Soviet Union was awarded Thursday's second game in the championship: match when Fischer refused to appear, staying in his hotel suite, because he objected to three motion picture cameras in the halL Thus Spassky, who won the first game, was 2-0 in the 24-game series. He needs 10 more points to retain the title. A victory counts one point and a draw half a point. Fischer agreed to go ahead with the match if the cameras were removed. The movie and television rights allowed the Icelandic Ches3 Federation to offer a record $125,000 purse for the two players.

A spokesman for promoter Chester who bought the movie and TV rights for the match for the Icelandic Chess Federation, said the cameras had to stay because "the whole financial structure of the match de- pends on it." Fox said Fischer admitted he couldn't hear or see the three cameras, but "he said they bothered him because he knew they were there." Stands to Lose Share Gudmundur Thorarisson, president of the Icelandic federation, said that if the match was stopped by Fischer's disqualification the organizers would not pay the loser's share. This meant that Fischer could not only lose his chances at the title but a great sum of money. As the loser he would be entitled to $46,875 from the chess federation, $45,000 from a purse of about offered by British financier James Slater, and $27,500 from television and movie rights. Andrew Davis, Fischer's lawyer who arrived in the morning from. New York, appeared upset by today's ruling: Asked if Fischer would appear for the third game Sunday, he replied: "I can't comment on that." Davis appeared before the committee along with two Russians before it began its deliberations.

Davis declared Fischer wanted the forfeited game played and deserved it because playing conditions in the hall had been ruined by the presence of the cameras. If one player objected, that was sufficient reason to halt the play, he contended. FEATURE INDEX r.OOK REVIEW. View, Page 6. BRIDGK.
