Maggart. The place of holding the conference next year was left with the district committee and the date was fixed as the third week in August. It was a. tired sheriff--A. L.

Sawyer of Albion--who dragged in here early Tuesday morning, bringing with him three prisoners, captured at Belle Plaine, Iowa. Nearly two -weeks ago the Buic' auto belonging to John W. Wolfe, farmer, near Kimmell, was stolen, p.nd from that moment Sheriff Sawyer has been on the lookout for the thieves. Getting a hint as to who they were, he never stopped hunting until he landed them in jail at Albion. Three parties are implicated in the theft--Tom Jewel! and Miss Hilda Centers, of Chaldron, Ohio, and J.

Hoon of Kimmell. They stole the auto from the Wolfe garage and, taking the Lincoln highway, drove west to Belle Plaine, Iowa. There they went broke, and the two young men hired out as" railway" brakemen, and had made two trips before Sheriff Sawyer turned up on the scene. Jewell the woman were living together as man and wife-as they are said to have done both in Noble and Whitley counties-without the formality of a marriage license, and the Mann act Is liable to be called into the case. They are safely lodged in jail and awaiting their turn before the Noble circuit court.

Sheriffs Son Makes Arrest. About the time that Sheriff Sawyer had arrived in Kendallville with his prisoners, his son Ora, deputy sheriff, was making a little chase all his own. The home of Joe Smith, near Wawaka, had been broken into duringthe night and money and valuables taken. The telephone hurried Ora along and, getting a good clue, he soon fouBd his man at the union station, Kendallville, just after he had purchased a ticket to Toledo. He "coughed up" the 125 he had stolen, a suit of clothes, a revolver and a good watch, and he is also waiting at the jail.

He Is a young man, 19 years old, and gives his name as Frank Floys. Voters Have Registered. (Spteitt to the NTMB.) COLUMBIA CITT, Aug. Up to date there has been 2,900 voters registered In this county and there remain: but five weeks in which to register. It estimated there are 1,400 voters still unregistered.

and Mrs. Eislie have returned to their home in Mansfield. after spending week with the Lelningers at Lake James. Agnes and Jeannette Potlock and Ellen Moss left Saturday evening for Plemington, W. for a fortnight's visit with Mr.

and Mrs. Coy Lough. Mr. and Mrs. John Davis, of Indianapolis, are guests of Linda Peachey at the Carver cottage, at Spring Point, Lake James.

Gertrude Ingalls is visiting in Indianapolis with her brother, Dr. Ingalls. Mr. and Mrs. Charles J.

Laney and dfliiphters have been camping in tha Zipfel cottage. Lake James, and will return Monday to their home In Cleveland. WymonJ Ritter has bought the Wayne Miller residence on West Prospect street and will move his family there in about two weeks. Mr. Miller has a position In Fort Wayne and is preparing to move there at once.

Mrs. Angie Utter has returned and will teach the eighth grade in the Angola schools this yeai. Mrs. Sol A. Wood had Miss Marguerite Bicknell as her house guest at Maywood, Spring Point, Lake James, over the week-end.

Mrs. Wood will close her cottage for the seaspn Tuesday and return to Fort Wayne. Prof. Harshman and Prof. Hols worth are enjoying a camping and fishing expedition at Lake James.

Mrs. Edward Falanders has returned from Fort Wayne, where she visited her sister, Mrs. Frank Reiley. Her husband is in Washington, D. C.

F. Wood, of this city, a western physician of the county, is suffering from a fractured or dislocated hip. Tuesday forenoon the doctor went to his farm east of town and while holding a colt was thrown in such a way as to receive the injury. Dr. Wood suffered a paralytic stroke about two years ago and had never entirely regained the use of his left side.
