Colorado University 13, Colorado College 0. for the Big Ten championship Saturday by crushing Missouri, 47 to 6, before 41,000 shivering faitf. The 1944 conference titlists, undefeated in nine games last year, found Missouri, without its star Bill Dellastatious, little real competition for such backs as Paul Sarringhaus and Ollie Cline. Sarringhaus, a member of Ohio's 1942 conference champions who returned this fall from the army, led the touchdown barrage with four. Fullback Cline, a sopohomore and one of the two regulars from last year's team who started Saturday, accounted for two others, 37,000 Watch Badgers Smother Jesuits, 40-13 MADISON, Sept.

29. (IP) Wisconsin's football team, sparked by a pair of brilliant backs, Jerry Thompson and Ben Bendrick, unleashed a devastating ground and aerial attack Saturday to smother Marquette's eleven, 40 to 13, before 37.000. Photo hy Johnnie Cunoo block, Gillory got around Bob Leary (11) and other Pirates for a touchdown but it was called back and Texas penalized for holding. Gillory played less than a quarter and figured in one scoring play his 21-yard pass to Hubert Bechtol. FIRST START in a Longhorn uniform for little Byron (49), freshman tailback from Marshall, resulted Saturday in some nifty running against Southwestern although he was still obviously handicapped by a lame leg.

On this particular play, aided by Jack Halfpenny's thunderous Figures and Facts Yellowjackets Win, 20-14, in Thriller CHAPEL HILL, N. Sept. 29. P) North Carolina's surprising Tar Heels, making their home debut under new Head Coach Carl Shave-ly, matched power and reception with Georgia Tech's favored Yellowjackets Saturday and barely lost 20-14 in a thrill-packed battle. A crowd of 25.000 which filled the stands for Shavely's homecoming to Carolina where he coached a decade ago, saw the Jackets overcome a one pointidcficit at the half to win in the third period when Wingback George Matthews plunged over from the Carolina two yard stripe for the winning score.

In the final moments, Bobby Dodd's ramblin' wreck had to call on all the tricks usually credited to Tech elevens to stave off defeat. Appreciate and Cherish Life. ft Yards 63 81 19 14 5 5 4 2 -n Receivers Bechtol. Texas Jackson. Texas Moore.

Plenty experienced operators and helpers to serve you. ALLIED OIL COMPANY 1601 San Jacinto 801 East 6th am 5 0 teams passed freely, and incidentally Texas' alert secondary which gobbled up six Pirate tosses was partly responsible for a walkaway score. The Longhorns teed off for their first touchdown early in the opening quarter, starting when Bechtol nabbed a fumble on the Southwest-em 42, Arthur Sweet and Freddie Brechtel did the carrying and Sweet dived the last three yards. Guard Tom Harrell kicked goal, as he did on three subsequent occasions.

Brechtel intercepted a pass to nullify Allen's fine kickoff bring-back, the teams exchanged punts and Texas worked down to the Pirate four without scoring. Brech tel's passes and his 15-yard sprint to the five were important items in the advance. He threw one to Slim Harrelson over the goal line but led him too far and big Slim was clear out of the end zone when he caught it. 2nd String Goes In The Texas second string went in for the second quarter and Maxie Bell created another chance with an 18-yard punt return to South western's 40. Bell passed to Charley Tatom, a good end Saturday, for 14 yards and then turned the ball over to Leroy Andersen.

Andy rammea down to the one-yard line in a series of tries before injuring his old game knee, and Bell took it over on fourth down for the second touchdown. That one came a little hard. The third one looked easy: Texas had the ball on its own 46, after a punt exchange. Bell hit Ransom Jackson going down the sideline, on about the 30; the former Horned Frog whirled back into the middle of the field and outraced the Pirates to the end zone. That made the halftime score 20-0.

The Pirates pulled out of one ugly hole in the third, after Bob Hamric fumbled a bad center pass on fourth down and was tripped by Dale Schwartzkopf on the 31. Brechtel passed to Bechtol for 21 yards, but Ends Dick Westkaemper and Bob Hollaway stirred up a defense that had Texas moving the wrong way. Southwestern took over on the 14 and Allen quick-kicked beautifully deep into Texas territory. Gillory Leads Little Gillory came in and sparked a 67 -yard drive, throwing in a 16-yard sweep and finally flipping a pass to Bechtol, waiting on the goal line, for the touchdown. That was all the first stringers could get, although Gillory's 20-yard punt return to the Southwestern 35 set off another threat.

Gillory raced for an apparent touchdown from around the 10-yard line, but Texas was caught holding. Allen intercepted a pass on fourth down and ran it out to the 22. He also rammed out another fine quick-kick, this one for 55 yards, before the third period closed. Jackson's fumble, recovered by Guard Don Robinson on his 32, temporarily interrupted the second-stringers advance early in the fourth. Sam Callan intercepted a pass and rambled to the 18; Chuck Williams almost immediately returned the favor.

The next time, however, Jackson meant business; he plucked off one and went back 15 yards to the Pirate 15. Bell, busiest Texas back Saturday, worked it down to the two and then sent Fullback George Graham across for the touchdown. Team Romps Soon thereafter Texas team came in and rocked the Pirates back on Jack Gwin's excellent quick-kick out on the 17. On a fumbled lateral the ball bounced around, working back toward the Pirate goal, and Tackle Johnny Ring finally corralled it on the four. Lowrey cracked over the middle for the touchdown.

A few plays later, the second and last time he handled the ball. Lowrey galloped 24 yards for another touchdown. The Steers had rushed Hamric badly on a punt, which went nearly straight up and came down on the 24. Emory Bellard intercepted a pass tipped by several different players and the reserves were joyfully trying to shake loose Quarterback Johnnie B. Rogers when the game ended.

Texas coaches left immediately after the game for San Antonio to watch Texas Tech, next Saturday's opponent, against the Texas Aggies. Illini Beaten By Irish; 7-0 SOUTH BEND, Sept. 29. (JP) Freshman Phil Collella's 76-yard touchdown pass gave Notre Dame a 7-0 triumph over Illinois as the Irish made their debut in a bitter battle before 45,000 Saturday. The Illini were stopped on the one-yard and the three yard lines in the final period.

Sub Leads Sooners Over Nebraska, 20-0 LINCOLN, Sept. 29. (JP) Oklahoma's Sooners, led by substitute Halfback Howard Hawkins, pushed across a touchdown in each of the final three quarters to defeat Nebraska, 20-0, in the first Big Six game of the season here Saturday. An estimated 19.000 saw the big Sooner line bottle up Nebraska's attack through most of the game. The Russian government has appropriated one billion dollars for the development of television.
