W. Behnken, Lutheran Church president. Dr.

Behnken spoke at various Reformation Week services in the Southland before returning this week end to his home in Oak Park, 111., where he supervises the activity of the 5500 churches and 1500 schools his denomination, maintains in the United States and six provinces of Canada. 400 New Missions More than 400 new missions have been established in the last four years in Panama, Guatemala, Venezuela, Cuba, Hawaii, Philippine Islands, New Guinea, Japan and India. Many of the 250 wartime chaplains assumed postwar mission pastorates and there still are 75 chaplaincies, Dr. Behnken disclosed. This is the first visit of the tall, snowy-haired church leader to Southern California since his fifth re-election to a three-year term at the recent convention in Milwaukee.

He had served 28 years as pastor at Houston, and was one of four international vice-presidents when he assumed the presidency in 1935. Growth of Church Dr. Behnken said the church's steady strides are reflected in the total of 750,000 baptized members 25 years ago and the 1,756,860 of today, a growth represented in every State. In church service few families can equal the record of the Behnkens. Father and five sons all attended St.
