Times photo Broadway Store Opens in Whittwood Center Golden Shears Snip Ribbons and Business Begins at Chain's 11th Unit in Southland Five golden shears snipped rows of white ribbons Monday and the Broadway Whittier became the 11th store in Southern California and the 18th in the state to join the group of Broadway Department stores.

Mix, who retired in March, 1952, moved to Santa Barbara in 1957 with his wife, Lona. Before his retirement, he had been a Superior Court clerk here for nearly 30 years, serving last three years under the presiding judge. Born in Fargo, N.D., Mr. Mix spent his childhood in Nogales, and Hermosillo, Mex. In 1912, he was elected clerk of Santa Cruz County, Arizona, when that state was first admitted to the Union.

He resigned in 1917 to enlist in the U.S. Cavalry and serve in World War I. Came Here in 1923 Mr. Mix came to Los Angeles in 1923. In addition to his widow, he leaves a sister.
