HOWEVER, THE VICTIM was told she would have to put up "good faith" money to prove she was capable of supporting herself without the promised windfall. They went to the victim's home where she turned over $1,000 in cash, and traveled to Norwood Federal Savings Loan Association, where the victim withdrew $4,000 and gave it to the con artist.

The next day, the victim took the con artist to the First Federal Savings Loan Association branch at 6200 S. Kcd-zie where she withdrew $5,000 in cash and a check for another $5,000 which she turned over to the con artist. The pair went to Bell Federal Savings Loan Association where the elderly woman withdrew three checks for $5,000 each and $2,500, all of which were given to the younger woman. AFTER THE LAST withdrawal, the con artist left on the pretext of going on an errand and wasn't seen again. The victim's daughter subsequently learned of the scheme, notified police, and convinced her mother to stop payment on the checks.

By Jerry Thornton POLICE ARE SEEKING an attractive female con artist who bilked an 85-year-old South Side woman out of $12,500 in cash and another $20,000 in checks. On Monday and Tuesday the cash and checks were turned over to the con artistdescribed as 25 to 30 years of age, with black hair and a fair complexion-after she promised the victim to share a find of $40,000 in cash and $150,000 in negotiable bonds. Investigators said Friday the victim learned in time that she was being taken to stop payment on the checks. POLICE SAID THE victim was waiting for a bus in the 5800 block of North Elston Avenue Monday, when the con artist showed her a bag containing money and bonds, told her she found it, and asked her to accompany her to an attorney so he could advise what to do with the money. Entering the younger woman's car, the victim was driven to an unkown location, where she was told to wait.
