Wf J '4 J ' ' " , , " Tidal Wave hits Great America The public won't crest "The Tidal Wave" until Marriott's Great America amusement park in Gurnee reopens on May 6. The Tidal Wave is what Great America calls its newest ride, created in Muesterhausen, Germany, by Anton Schwarzkopf, who also built the Looping Racer for the Hollywood film "Roller Coaster." The Tidal Wave will sweep 28 passengers in a 7-car coaster train to a speed of 55 miles an hour, spin them through a 76-foot-high loop, carry them to the top of a 142-foot tower, and then hurl them backward through the loop to the starting point. But for now, the screams have not begun, and the thrills of the Tidal Wave belong to painters like Emanuel Koulianos (above, right, and at left below) and Mike Linarpos (below). .
