Investigators said a preliminary autopsy Monday showed that Mrs. Lucy R. Grant was suffocated or strangled in the bedroom of her white frame bungalow during an apparent burglary over the weekend.

In the late 1960s representatives from Metromedia Corp. tried to buy the bungalow atFernwood Ave. and Wilton Place for expansion of station KTTV. But Mrs. Grant refused to sell.

Then in 1970, Mrs. Grant agreed to Metromedia buy the land if the national corporation, would let her stay, as 'long as she wanted, and also agreed to pay the upkeep and taxes. "I didn't want the bother of moving. I'm right here," she had told the Metrome-dia officials, "and I'm going to Mrs. Grant's son, Thomas Grant, 63, who lived with her, found the body.

There were signs of forced entry and a small amount of cash and jewelry were missing, police said. 1 -V1 it? -if i fyf ill! 1 1 IlillBiilil llilllllililiilllit A I -1 WEATHER Continued from Third Page A message from President Ford was read by William R. Burke, past national commander of the American Legion. Mr. Ford called the Sacred Torch Ceremony "a tribute to man's determination to be free and strong." Consuls general or their i representatives from seven foreign nations presented torches to leaders of veterans groups during the celebration.

Celebration of Veterans Day has led to considerable confusion in the last four years, with the federal gov ernment celebrating on the fourth Monday in October and many states and municipalities sticking with the traditional Nov. 11 date. Until 20 years ago, Veterans Day was called Armistice Day. It was established by the United States, France and England after World War which ended Nov. 11, 1918.

After the Korean conflict, Armistice Day was redesignated as Veterans Day in the United States. The holiday was then said to be in honor of servicemen from all U.S. wars. I 1971, Congress changed Veterans Day to the fourth Monday of October, so it would always be part of a three-day weekend. Immediate protests resulted, most of them by veterans groups.

Many states passed legislation returning their celebration of Veterans Day to Nov. 11. California did so last year. It appears the confusion will end next year. The Senate has passed a bill changing Veterans Day back to Nov.

11 and the legislation is expected to pass the House without significant opposition. MATCH-MAKING LOOKS IN KNIT COORDINATES Make yourself a match!
