Patrick Joseph Curry, 21-year-old dischargee of St. Joseph, has been signed as first baseman for the Joplin Miner's, club officials announced last night. Curry, who stands 6 feet 1 inch and weighs 185 pounds, is left- handed in throwing and batting, and was signed during an American Legion baseball tournament in 1942 by Dutch Zwilling and assigned to Appleton of the Wisconsin State League.

Dycks' Status Undetermined. The signing of Curry, officials said, probably will mean transfer of Art Dycks, 6-foot-5-inch athlete, to some other club in the New York Yankee chain. Dycks is the third first sacker to serve with the Miners so far this season. Bob Reilly, business manager, said the baseball club will sponsor a fireworks display at Miners park the night of July 6 when Topeka and Joplin meet in the second game of their series. The display will include 11 scenes.

Cy Young, who won 512 games in the American League during his pitching career, and who still ranks as one of the outstanding twirlers in baseball, will be here for three days next and will make a pitching mance before Friday night's contest. Young will be accompanied here by Emmett (Turk) Reilly, sales promotion executive of a Detroit sporting goods firm. Walter Dubiel of the Yankees had a perfect record against the Red Sox last season, getting six decisions. Dtuch Leonard of the Senators had similar success against the White Sox.
