ATTRACTIONS ON THE SCREEN AND STAGE Music and Romance Keynofe Attractions on View Today Films with the accent on music and romance will keynote the list of attractions playing on Joplin screens today. Comedy, action, suspense and'drama are themes of other pictures on the celluloid calendar. FOX. A musical featuring a new'Cole Porter score, "Les Girls," will be playing as the principal attraction today through Wednesday at the Fox screen. Members of the cast include Gene Gaynor, England's-Kay Kendall, making her Hollywood debut; Taina Elg and Jacques Bergerac.

The picture presents the story of a musical act which tours Europe and gets itself involved in hilarious romantic complications, Seven new'songs by Porter are featured in the film. Supplementing the fare will be ''Rockabilly Baby," a musical drama concerning the struggle of a youthful mother and her two teen-age children to find a place for themselves in hostile small town. Starring Virginia Fields and Douglas Kennedy, with Les Brown and his band featured, the" film introduces three young teen-age newcomers. Judy Busch, Marlene Willis, and Gary Vinson. Opening an engagement Thursday will be "The Missouri Traveler," a film tribute to the American Middle West, particularly centered around the section "in Southeastern Missouri known as the Mark Twain country.

The film's cast is headed by Brandon de Wilde, Garry Merrill, Paul Ford of the Sergeant Bilko 'television show and newcomer Mary Hosford. A world premiere of the film will be held Tuesday at Kansas City. Completing; the fare will be "The Violators." a melodrama starring Arthur O'Connell, with Nancy Fred Beir and Clarice Blackburn cast in other lop roles. TRI-STATE DRIVE-IN. Featured tonight through Tuesday night orrthe Tri-State Drive-In screen will be "The Girl Can't Help It," a comedy starring Tom Ewell, Jayne Mansfield and Edmond' O'Brien.

Fourteen of the top on the jazz scene today appear in the movie. them are Julie London, Ray Anthony and his orchestra, Fats Domino, the Platters and Barry Gordon. The story evolves around a nightclub entertainer whom a gangster, for romntic reasons, attempts to launch as a jukebox favorite through -gangster tactics. Completing the bill will be "Battle Cry," a war drama starring Aldo Ray, Van Heflin, Tab Hunter, Mona Freeman, Dorothy Malone and Anne Francis PARAMOUNT. P-at Boone and Shirley Jones share starring honors in "April Love." a romantic musical which will head the fare today through Wednesday at the Paramount.

The picture presents a story of young set in a. mid-Western background of sulky racing. Others cast in key roles are Dolores Michaels and Arthur O'Connell. "Dino." a drama starring Sal Mineo, Brian Keith and Susan Kohner, will supplement the program. It concerns a juvenile delinquent and the forces which assisted in bringing about his rehabilitation and rightful place in society.

Frank Faylen and Joe DeSantis are featured. Making up the twin-bill offered as the bargain night" program Thuis- day will be "Rebecca." starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fonlaine, and "The Third Man," with Joseph Cotten, Valli, Orson Welles and Howard in the starring cast. REX. A science-fiction thriller, "The Black Scorpion," starring Richard Demming, will keynote a 'triple-feature program offered today at the Rex.
