This reunion is notable in the Masonic history of Austin In that it will ba the first one in which all the Scottish Rite degrees from the fourth to the Uiirly-Recond will be conferred in this city. Cp to about a year ago the bodies in Aust.n had the authority to confer only as hlyh us the eixiiteenth degree. At that time Sam p. Cochran of i)al-las, sovereign grand inspector goneral Texas of tho Scottish late, granted a dispensation to the.

Austin bodies to confer additional decrees from the nineteenth, through ulu thirtieth, and these degi-eeb have since then been conferred under this dispensation. When the Supreme Council mot in Washington in October this dispensation was replaced by a permanent charter, which gives the bodies here the risht to confer to the thirtieth degree perpetually. At the same tuuo Mr. Cochran announced that he would at an early dalo grant a dispensation to tho Austin bodies to confer the two remaining hitrner degrees. This dispensation was formally confcrrl-d oy Mr.

Cochran upon ins visit to Austin. The Scottish Rite degrees are conferred in four bodies. The Ineffable degrees, being from the fourth to the lourteenth, inclusive, are conferred in the lodges of perfection. These degrees will be conferred in Austin, concluding with the fourteenth on night. The historical and religious degrees, fifteenth to eighteenth, inclusive, arc conferred in the Rose Croix cha titer.

They will be conferred on Tuesday. The chivalile and philosophic degrees, 'nineteenth to thirtieth, are conferred In the Council of Ka-dosh, and will be administered Iti Austin, beginning Tuesday night and concluding Wednesday night. The official degrees, which are the thirty-first and thirty-second, are conferred in consistories and will be administered in Austin on Thursday. In is expected that the class at the coming reunion will be the largest In the history of the Scottish Rite bodies in Austin. More than two hundred candidates have been elected to take degrees.

The work of putting on the degrees mm ires very elaborate staging, costuming and a very large number of members for the different parts in the different stages, in some of the higher degrees there are as many as forty ciiaracti rs the taking part.
