The cause of his death was not disclosed, but a family member told The Times he had been ill "off and on" for the last two Funeral services are pending.

Under the name Duke Lloyd he enjoyed several years as a successful nightclub entertainer and singer. For good measure, he could recite Thomas Grav's 128-line "Elegy Written'in a Country Church Yard." Mr. Roth leaves a daughter, Mrs.

Thomas McEachen of Los Angeles; a sister, Mrs. Adeline Stern of Valley City, N.D., and three grandchildren.
