EXCLUSIVE ENGAGEMENT NATIONAL GENDMLS 3rd WEEK Eri. and Sat 2:15 4:40 7:059:30 12:00 Midnight 457)310 berge presents Ike and Tina Turner's live Carnegie Hall album "What You Hear Is What You Get." Live is the key word here because in an attempt to revise and enliven the format the Faberge crew went to Las Vegas Cae-. sars Palace to capture the on-stage spirit of Ike (in hot pants), Tina and the Ikettes (in microminis).

On stage Tina Turner is explosive. She reels with spontaneous, uninhibited motions. At home with her illuminated surroundings, she expresses joy in a way words could never convey. Double Objective Tina is a study in sensuality in motion that has seldom, if ever, been captured on television. But today's Faberge show succeeds in catching Tina Uncensored on and off stage.

Away from the lights Tina is smaller, calmer and pensive. The idea behind the Faberge Album is twofold. "We want to sell Faberge "A POl'JEilFUL AtlD WIN A F8IE HAHLET DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE ENTEX OUR 'EVEL KHIEVEL ESSAY CONTEST "WHY I WOULD LIKE TO OWN HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE" Faberge "BY MARY B. MURPHY Time Stiff Wrfttr Faberge Album of the Month is a new concept in 'familiarizing through television the recording album of one artist or one group: It began in March with the Three Dog Night album "Naturally" and then focused on Steppenwolf's and Cass Elliot land Dave Mason's "Mason Cass." Live From Carnegie The idea was innovative and promised not only to help Faberge cosmetics but young and unsung recording artists; But the formats of the first three shows were tired, lip-sync studio jobs. The producers knew it, and so one presumes did many in the record industry.

The producers admitted trouble in getting some top groups to perform. Hopefully, Jthe fourth time's the charm. Today from 4:30 to 5 p.m. on KNBC (Channel 4) Fa si I) PHfiTl i a a SV. -I 1-T NO tmmi REflUIRtO.

The scene is Bob Adler's 940 Club on La Cienega at Santa Monica. Cary, who in 1946 was the original pianist in Armstrong's All Stars, has long since made the transition to brass.

He is a trumpeter whose beautifully constructed solos and endearing sound blend the best of Bobby Hackett and Satch. Vintage Songs Often, too, he swtches to peckhorn, achieving a timbre that suggests a lighter -textured valve trombone. One of the most beguiling uses of this too rarely heard horn was his revival of an obscure 1958 Jimmy Van Heusen, "To Love and Be Loved," from Some Came Running." For the most part the band leans on songs of a earlier vintage. If vour tastes incline toward of the Blues," "Day In Day Out," "September Song" or Lil Armstrong's "Struttin' With Some Barbecue," you may listen or dine or dance to them at Adler's. Cary's present sidemen are Ray Sherman, an eclectic (but never electric) pianist; Ray Leather-wood, bass; Nick Fatool, drums; Herbie Harper, trombone, and Deane Kin-caide, who is basically a good baritone saxophonist though he is heard more frequently on clarinet, which he handles nervously and with questionable intonation.

Personal Sounds Fortunately this problem was rectified when a sitter-in, Barney Bigard of Armstrong and Ellington renown, took over the clarinet chores. His choruses on "Rose Room" and "Sweet Lorraine" had the twirling, limpid-toned beauty that have long been one of the most personal sounds in traditional jazz. The band has been together long enough to sound organized (preplanned key modulations are smoothly negotiated) without any signs of slick-ness. Cary might well try out his men on a few contemporary songs. Bacha-rach with a dash of Dixieland might be more refreshing than the version of "Them There Eyes." By the way, Adler's has a new piano, and it's in tune.

For this relief much thanks. 3r r-n Joseph E. Uvmt presents Mike ll.t IXCkUSIVf INASIMIMT 4th RECORD WEEK I Billy 2:28 AM 1:28 1:20 10JS F.M.
