Families eligible for aid would receive a voucher for assistance payments, which may be as little as 25 percent or as much as 40 percent of projected monthly heat bills, according to Hatley. The voucher would be presented by the families to their heating fuel suppliers, Hatley added, and the suppliers would turn the vouchers over to the state for payment. No Benton County office has been established yet to handle applications for the program, Hatley said.

But one probably will be established by early December. ticipated money would be $650,000. The consortium received about $430,000 for heating aid last winter, according to Tom Hatley, program coordinator. The program began in November 1979 and continued through June 15. Hatley said residents of 2,540 houses in the three counties received money last winter.

He projects that residents of 3,000 houses may receive aid this winter because of the larger amount of money being anticipated. In Benton County, 620 households received heating aid last winter, according to Hatley. They received a total of $105,000. Eligibility for the program is determined by family income and family size. Low-income residents in Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties may get some help in paying their heating bills this winter.

The Linn-Benton-Lincoln Community Services Consortium is anticipating that $650,000 in federal money soon will become available in the three counties as a result of action taken recently by the state Legislative Emergency Board. The board authorized the, spending of $22 million statewide in anticipated federal money for heating aid. Money for the program has not been approved by Congress. But state officials authorized spending the money in anticipation that it will be approved. Mrs. Hathaway was employed in the microbiology department at Oregon State University from 1955 until 1970, when she retired. She was bom Aug. 19, 1905, to William and Sarah Ibbitson Baxter in Mt. Carmel, 111.

On Feb. 16, 1929, she and Edward J. Hathaway were married in Detroit, Mich. They moved to Corvallis in 1955. Mrs.

Hathaway is survived by two sons, Michael of Corvallis and James of Kennewick, Wash. two daughters, Gwen Rogers of Corvallis and Laura Holloway of Beaverton; six grandchildren and five sisters in Illinois and Indiana. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the McHenry Funeral Productivity gain recorded in third quarter WASHINGTON (AP) The productivity of the U.S. economy reversed a string of six quarterly declines to post a 1.4 percent annual rate of increase in the third quarter, the government reported today.

It was the largest rise in two years. Peggy Thompson was by Albany police late Friday night. Authorities believe the child, David Thompson, died Friday evening. An autopsy conducted by the Oregon medical examiner's staff concluded the child died of traumatic head injuries.

Amtrak agreed last spring to add the stop along its Coast Starlight route that runs from Los Angeles to Seattle after lobbying efforts from Klamath and Deschutes County residents. The town was founded as a support community for the train line in the 1920s.

But When passenger hoardings declined in the early 1960s, Southern Pacific eliminated the stop. Crews on Friday finished a lighted, 10-by-300-foot loading platform for use by the first passengers. New airline is certified WASHINGTON AP) The Civil Aeronautics Board has certified People Express as a new airline to provide nonstop service to 27 cities from New York City and Newark, N.J.

The board, which gave final approval Friday, had given tentative approval on Sept. 26, pending completion of a fitness examination. In its application, People Express said it expected to offer fares ranging from 41 percent to 55 percent lower than existing coach fares.
