OF HEAVEN' IS BRILLIANT. An extraordinary and original visual experience thrilling in its uncompromised purity. Its most spectacular sequences will stay in mind forever and so will its sounds. Without parallel in this or any recent years. INCOMPARABLE." Charles Champlln, LOS ANGELES TIMES "EXTRAORDINARY! 'DAYS OF HEAVEN' TOUCHES THE TEST OF EXCELLENCE.

Each time vou see it. i'X 'I you will be newly enriched. It is a film to be prized." LARRY GORDON Continued from Page 39 liam Devane's hand forced into garbage disposal. "The lobby looked like Guadalcanal," recalled Gordon, "which is, by the way, a salesman's dream." Fox dropped the project after Gordon refused to make cuts "I wanted a good violent film rather the an a bad one" and a valuable summer was lost before AIP distributed the final cut of the film. Gordon said he'd never before realized the effect violence could have on an audience.

"I realized these weren't the kinds of films I want to make." And he said he violently opposed the graphic, cold-blooded murder of Ronee Blakley's character in "The Driver." Yet "Warriors" includes a conclave of 100 New York City street troops versus 20,000 cops" -set up to capture the city, borough by borough. Gordon called the warriors "zany, likable" kids, involved in popgun violence, as opposed to realistic violence, which consciously attempts to draw an audience into the violence on screen. "It's not an exploitive film; it's more an adventure piece, like 'Dirty It's a mass audience piece, but who knows," said Gordon, speaking of this summer's experience, "maybe we won't find the right handle." In spite of this latest, iffy project, Gordon appeared to be breaking away from the mold of his first films, apparently inspired by the vintage Eastwood that he clearly admires. And it's interesting that the humor of Burt Reynolds has softened the product. "We must give people chances in every area, and we must take- more chances," said Gordon of the industry.

"It's all a big gamble. It's like being a pit boss in Vegas." Gene Sham, NBC-TV "MASTERLY, STUNNING, IMAGINATIVE, SENSUOUS, UNCOMPROMISING, BEAUTIFUL Can be enjoyed purely as spectacle. Very deeply felt. A piercing work of art by a major American artist." Stephen Farber, NEW WEST "ONE OF THE GREAT CINEMATIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE LAST DECADE. Dramatically moving and technically breathtaking." Charles Schreger.
