Sugar Quietness continues predominate in this market, the demand throughout the week in many of the leading centres being again easy and transactions were not vry extensive, but as regards priees there is not much change to notice, previous rates being fairly well maintained.

In London dulness was again prevalent, and sales wera effected somewhat slowly, but in a few instances only are prices any worse, most qualities bringing pretty steady ratos. In Liverpool auietneSs was also the prevailing feature, the inquiry almost during the entire being without improvement, and business was again en the moderate side, but quotations show little alteration. Clyde crashed opened somewhat quietly, but as the week advanced the demand improved slightly and firm rates were generally current. The amount of business transacted. however, was not very groat, the supply of suitable sugars-being again moderate.

The stock of sugar in the four norts London. Clyde, and Bristol) now shows a deficiency of 12,830 tons. At-this period last year the deficiency was Imported from London, 225 cases 35 hags, and from Glasgow and Greenock 660 bags. Tea A further improved tone was noticeable in this market during the past week, the inquiry for most qualities exhibiting more strength than heretofore, and a steady business transpired at full to slightly stiffer rates in many instances. At tha public sales the quantity brought forward, amounted to 41,930 packages, as against 46,630 during the previous week.

Ceylons were again in rather good supply, but as some slight improvemont was noticeable in the quality of the bulk, the demand generally was brisk, and sales wore effected ireely, whilst prices of all qualities, except inferior, which showed no change, ruled against the buyer. New season's Tndian teas of desirable quality, but more especially fine Darjeeling aud Assam descriptions, of which a larger proportion than heretofore was on offer, again met with a strong inquiry, and generally sold to advantage. Common and thin liquoring kinds, however, were without improvement. Old season's teas also somewhat slow to movo. Javas were in fair request, and passed off steadily.

New season's black loaf congou was in better request than heretofore, and fine, which met with most inquiry, brought a further advance in price. New red loaf congou without improvement. Old congous still somewhat slow of sale. Scented and green teas steady as regards values. Ceffae -The London market on the spot continues to be pervaded by a very quiet tone, and business during the week was of moderate extent; whilst prices 01 the lower qualities had a somewhat easier tendency.

At the auctions supplies showed a further falling off hut as almost the entire consisted of ordinary mixed and undesirable kinds, for which there is not much demand at present, the reduction in the offerings brought about no beneficial effect, and sales generally passed off slowly, whilst, previous prices were not in all cases maintained. For the moderate proportion of really fine, however, there was a good inquiry, and full to rather higher rates were obtained. The half-yearly general meeting of sbare-ioldars of the West Clare Eailsvay Company sss held a the Queen's Hotel here yesterday, Lombard, Chairman of the Cons- pinv, presided.

i Meiir- Sullivan, manager; Dudley, solicitor, I j.bUn: Hopkins, Locomotive Superintendent, were lie, Tirr.sn:. Tri putting the report ana statement of achats, which have already appeared, the chairman said The accounts, which have been circulated, represent the working of the com-wnv for the six months ended 30th April, I ig94. The total traffic receipts from all sources Amounted to .3,764 8s 8d. The increase for passonser traffic, compared with the corres- iondinspfriod for '92-'93, was 104 Is lid; for parcels, 16 3s 9d goods, 96 2s 8d and I onaer the head of miscellaneous, 42 2s, while was a small falling off in live stock of 16 6s Those figures give a net inerease on gyaeral traffic of 241 14s Id, but from this has to be deducted 175 for the mail contract, which the company surrendered on 1st October, 1893, leaving a net increase on the half year of 66 13s lid. The directors after mature consideration decided to surrender this nail contract, under which they were obliged to rim a train every day all the year round for the snm of 350 per annum at a Terv early hour in the morning, when no other traffic could be obtained.

We considered that ro less than 1,000 a year would pay for this train, but the Post Office authorities could not be induced to give anything like that sum. As far as the morning mails are concernd the public in West Clare are not sariously inconvenienced by not having the mails carried by train, as the post by tho mail cars is delivered even in the most remote parts at a sufficiently early hour for all practical purposes. The oav mail is, however, on a different foot-is; and it is only by the train this mail could be delivered at all in the district covered by our railway. I am happy to say that after lire? and protracted negotiations, in which the Pest Office exhibited the care for public economy for which it is remarkable, we have settled terms for delivering the mails at ail the stations on the "West and South Clare Eailways. The company is to receive ,153 a year without the necessity of rurrahn; any trains other than those required for the ordinary traffic.

I expect this delivery of day mails will be appreciated in Kilkee during the present Mason. The expenditure during the period under notice was less than that of the corresponding period of '92-'93 by 315 2s lOd. This saving was partly effected by reason of the reduced train mileage consequent on the surrender of the mail contract and partly by the division of management and general charges with tho South Clare Company. The ject'ipts and expenditure practically balance each other. It is the first time this was accomplished in the winter half year.

After referring to the recent litigation with the Clare Grand Jury, in which the company succeeded at every point, the chairman continued We have made a substantial addition to the rolling stock of five new carriages and one new locomotive, which has been designed with the greatest care and after long consideration to rait the trafSo ef the West and South Clare Railways, and it has been constructed by one of the first makers in the world of the very materials and workmanship. It possesses many novel features and has turned out a complete success. After noticing the improvements to the permanent way, Mr Lombard said he was glad to believe that the I.Hiiefit to the districts served by the railway -i come quite up to the us of the promoters and supporters. In the year ending 30th April last 104,501 passengers, 25,510 head of live Btock, 11,554 tons of goods, and 6,178 parcels ware conveyed on the West Clare Railway. Thsse figures exceeded the most sanguine estimates, and he was convinced they would be found to grew for years to come.

As a great many passengers wore strangers coming into the district to spend money, and as every head ef live stock brought a substantially increased prion compared with that it would fetch in the F.bsence of a railway, he thought on the whole the ratepayers had reason to be satisfied they were getting value for their guarantee, and v.ithcitt a guarantee the railway would never lavo been constructed. He then formally moved the adoption of the report. Dr Carte seconded the motion, and the jeport was after some discussion unanimously scopted. Hogan made a complaint about the run-Sling hours of the Waterford and limerick Eailway Co. There was a general feeling throughout Clare they were against the interest of the West Clare Co and of the county.

Sullivan (manager West Clare Co) said be had received a list of new and satisfactory alterations of the system, and Mr Hogan then withdrew a resolution he was about to pro-pise on the subject. There was a discussion on the subject of mixed trains, and Sir Francis Brady said the delays which had been complained of on the Waterford and Limerick Railway system were very much owing to the regulations of the Board of Trade itself, which had thought fit to impose on the company certain rules as to the running of mixed trains, or rather refusing permission to run them, which refusal bad been the cause of the greater part of the irresnlaTity. In a country with a population 30 thin as theirs, and the average means of payment so small, the running of trains that were not mixed, that is, separate trains for passengers and for goods, was not practicable. The danger of running mixed trains was, he asserted, imaginary. The Waterford and Limerick Company bad asked permission to run these mixed trains more largely, but as yet without success; and if the gentlemen who resided in this part of the country would assist the Waterford and Limerick Company by jointing out the absolute necessity of permitting mixed trains they would be doing a great deal to accomplish the object they bad in view.

The Chairman said it had been proved as dearly as anything in the world could be that toe mixed system must obtain in Ireland generally. All the small railways in Ireland anted it. The remaining business was of no general importance. BELFAST AND KOET HERN COUNTIES RAILWAY. By tbe Ballycastle, 3raperstown, and lama-vady and Dungiven Railway Acts of 1878 and 1832 authority was given to the company to raise and subscribe to those undertakings sums amounting to .74,000, and the usual resolutions were passed by the proprietors. The whole amount was. subscribed, but as yet there has been no issue out of the acts above named, the directors having availed themselves of clauses in those acts enabling them to make the subscrip tions out oi tee unexDausted powers or previous acts.

The board have been advised that by virtue of the Companies Act of 1890, and with the sanction of the proprietors, they can exercise the powers of issuing stock under the several acts above referred to, so far as is necessary to carry out what is authorised by the Act of 1890. An amended resolution will accordingly be submitted to you at a suecia! meeting, to be held after the conclusion artful in .3 uuaiuosa ui bine urmnary meeting. DUBLIN ARTISANS' DWELLINGS' COMPANY, LIMITED- The directors' rwnnrt: -fsi- hoi J- wuv ending 30th June, 194, states that the two hundred houses contracted for on the Aughrim street site have been finished and handed over by the builder, and are now occupied. As the.) aemana tor accommodation at Aughnm street pas provea very gooa, ana as there is space on the cempany's ground there for sixty additional houses, the directors have had plans prepared for this number, and hone next nmnt.Vi pasition to invite tenders from contractors. The directors also think it is now advisable to make preparations for the erection ef a further number of houses on the vacant portion of the company's ground at Kialto, all the buildings there being now fully occupied.

To carry out these works, and to enable the company to i ii js oi jix mrmer exienu tneir operations, It will be uuiwm ftuu est, an extraordinary general meeting to be held liumouiaLeiy airer me ordinary general meeting, the directors will submit resolutions for approval, authorising such increase from 150.000 to 200 nflfl -TV, for sanction for this inerese of capital before euwnng into new centracw Dut it will not be necessary nor do they contemplate issuing any of it at present. Since June, 1888, when the capital was last increased, 578 tenements have been built, the revenue of the company has risen frui 16,683 to 23,647, and the depreciation fund has been raised from 9,218 to 30,193. The four new Houses on Plunket street area, referred to in last half-year's report, have been completed, and are now occupied. These houses were built on the space occupied by two old tenement houses, which have been pulled down, as it was considered that to put them into a thorough sanitary state would cost too much. The cost of the new houses, ,750, has been charged to capital account, but the same account is credited with 400, the estimated value of the houses pulled down, this amount being deducted from the depreciation fund.

The rent received for the half year was 12,102 Is 4d, showing an increase, as compared with the previoos half year, of 569 3s 7d. The total revenue for the half year amunts to 12,108 10s 2d, leaving, after providing for all expenses, a balance of 5,765 Is 3d, out of which the directors recommend the payment of a dividend at the rate of per cont per annum, free of income tax, which" will abserb 3,226 19s, and leave a balance of 2,538 2s 3d to be carried to the credit of tho depreciation fund, which will then stand at 32,331 12s lid. The company's dwellings now number 1,978.
