m. today resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old Sault man. Richard D. Scott. 1003 Johnstone on charges of reckless driving, city police said this morning.

According to the police report, a patrol car headed west on E. Portage Ave. near the Armory, was passed by a car traveling east at a high rate of speed. The patrol car gave chase from Mission St. to the Antlers Cabins at speeds ranging from 70 to 100 mph.

As the car neared Gardenville Road, Scott turned into a private drive, pulled behind a house and shut off his lights. As the patrol car turned into che drh Scott turned on his lights and started from his position, sideswiped a tree with the left side of the car, traveled about 10 feet more and hit another tree with the right front fender, police said. The officer threw a spotlight on the car and ordered the driver to stop. However, he put the car in reverse and backed into a corner of the house. The patrolman blocked the driveway with the police car.

Scott attempted an end-run around the cruiser, but wound up in a ditch, according to the report. He was lodged in the city jail on a reckless driving charge, and appeared before Municipal Judge James J. Fenlon this morning, where he was continued for hearing until Sept. 8, police said. Smith Loses Supervisor Race At Whitefisli The Whitefisli township primary election results were announced today by Leo Zantop, township clerk.

According to Zantop. incumbent Supervisor Vern Smith was dei feated by Patrick Graham, 12282. Also elected were Leo Zantop. clerk, 163: Dorothy Chartran, treasurer, 167; Wells Bacon, trustee, 132. The last three named were unopposed, Zantop said.

Hikers Head For Bridge Upwards of 30 hikers, members of the International Walkers Association of America, opened another leg of their marathon journey in eastern Upper Peninsula. The walkers are participating in a 100-mile physical fitness hike from Batchawana River, Ont, to the Mackinac Bridge. The schedule calls for the group to reach the Mackinac Bridge Saturday. Thirty-three hikers, including veterans from the 19S3 walk from Alpena to Mackinac Bridge, started from Batchawana River on Monday morning. Tiie group reached Sault Ste.

Shepherd Rites The Hovie F'uneral Home announces that funeral services for Anne Shepherd, who died Wednesday, are still incomplete pending the arrival here of members of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening beginning at 7 o'clock.

Campbell Rites The body of Vernon W. Campbell, who died at his home in i Denver, is expected to arrive in the Sault late today or Friday morning, Hovie Funeral Home officials said today. Friends may call at the Hovie Funeral Home beginning at p. m. Friday.

The second, at 8:35 a. was at the Elsie Isaacson residence. 1501 W. Fifth Ave. Firemen said lightning struck a chimney on the house, tearing a hole in the roof.
