737-3232. Chicago Tribune, Sunday, July 7. 1974 'The Hurricane' serves as the wedding altar By Joseph Sjostrom MARRIAGE IS no merry-goround, so they got married on "The Hurricane." "Most carnival weddings are held on the Ferris wheel or on the merry-go-round, so we decided to do it a little different- ly," said Franklin Darling, 38, the nervous groom. Darling, a superintendent for Midwest Amusements, 4561 N. East River is running the carnival being held thru today by the Oak Forest Jaycees at 159th Street and Central Avenue.

HE AND THE former Cindy Offutt, 22, of 1629 W. Lawrence were married yesterday in a ceremony atop the platform of the Hurricane, one of a halfdozen rides or SO in the carnival. The ride has cars at the end of metal arms which go up and down as they revolve around the center. Darling, who has been in the carnival business for 25 years, has seen some weddings before beneath Ferris wheels and neon lights, but he never expected to be in one himself. "This was Cindy's idea," Darling said as he paced back and forth waiting for the bride.

"She's not in the carnival business, altho she will be now. But her mother and father were, a long time back." THE BRIDE, wearing a long dress and veil of cotton-candy white, was given away by Gus Pappas, 54, another carnival employe. She and the groom, who wore a brown and white tuxedo, mounted the five steps to the Frank Darling and Cindy platform and were married by the Rev. Henry R. Vellinga of the Hope Christian Reformed Church, 5825 W.

151st Oak Forest. The Rev. Mr. Vellinga said he never had performed a wedding at a carnival before. How did the bride feel? "I feel married.

It all came She only changed In a traditional organdy and lace wedding gown, Miss Marianne McGuire walked down the aisle at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 York Elmburst, yesterday, to say her wedding vows and become Marianne McGuire McGuire. In the front pews sat the parents of the bride and groom: the James E. McGuires and the James R. McGuires. And behind them sat a hundred Tribune Photo by Gerald West Offutt.

After a honeymoon, the couple will travel with the carnival, Darling said. the 'Miss' other McGuires, including two Margaret Mary McGuires; another Marianne McGuire; a third James McGuire; a couple of Michaels, two Kevins, and two Colleens. The two McGuire families are not related. The courtship that began in high school ended yesterday with the wedding of Miss McGuire, 22, a Glendale Heights physical education teacher, and Roger McGuire, 26, an Austin District patrolman.
