Dream Comes True In View Of Mansion "A SHEfeK DREAM OF BEAUTY COME TRUE" Aa dusk approached beyond the hilla, th* colorful sunset cast lumi- nouai shadows over the huge stone mansion and rippled over the rnd- lea« ctretch of smooth lawn Standing: on the terrace beside the to real, but were unmovinjr in fountain, of mermaids who aeemed their.- motions . to dance in the shower of water, I noticed through the Jrlass- door-window that the crystal chandeliers were lighted. As if tn a trance from sheer admiration xf the surroundings, I walked around to the front en- traoco where a young, very reserved, doorman ushered me into the marble floored and dimly lit reception halj. The gray chattering people inside paid but little attention to me—a solitary figure of reminiscent de- llg-ht; so I took it upon myself to see If the bsauty of two years past was still is existence. The dining roomi and library were as exquisite as ever with their French and gold, embroidered satins which were as stiff and unused, as when last seen. On the Swiss carved walls of the study were still the antlers, -headpieces and built-in book-shelves which held famous works of historians and orig-jnal novels. Mounting the irbn-tarvad stirway, o n whiclT .which there were four circular landings, I gazed again upon the original oil paintings froto abroad which lined the walls of the staircase. The countless fruest rooms were luxurious and twice as lovely to me now as before, Each had its own bath and outside terrace from where, on the west side, could be viewed the winding Hudson River. Entering through the French doors, molded in gold carving, my feet sank into the fur rug in the lounge as I made my way to the window, just in time to see the last rays of the sun disappear and know it was time for me to leave. One wonderful hour spent of seeing a dream come true. The dream of seeing a beautiful mansion estate that only a drench could create, on the Hudson River, unoccupied, all by itself, and now, peojFlo coming and going every day to keep it alive and to view its beauty. The dream I saw come true—and maybe you will too—the Frederick Vanderbilt Mansion; now a public government exhibit. Music Appreciation Class Inaugurated This year, for the first time, music appreciation ia being offered as a subject to N".H.S. students for enjoyment as well as the understanding of music. It is a subject open to tho entire Freshman and Sophomore grouip, adaptable toe- any curriculum. The term "music appreciation" has acquired a definite pace in the' United States, especially in schools and colleges -where music is taught. The term is still open to numerous interpretations by individuals, but there is no one word to better substitute for "appreciation," than "enjoyment." Music appreciation means listening to and enjoying the works of our music masters. It is not like on oipen book before a student; merely the inspirational ' feeling given to one listening- to musical tones through an open mind. It is practically unique in the fact that anyone can enjoy it in his own way of listening and interpreting. Good music may be anything from a popular jazz tune to a Beethoven symphony, depending entirely on the personal taste of the individual concerned. Good music has a definite place in the enrichment of our lives. Music appreciation helps to provide this enrichment! •\ MANY MOTH SPECIES There are about 6,000 species of moths In America.
