In many cases these nicknames have clung to the settlements and have come to be adopted as proper appela- tions. In a spirit of curiosity we went through our exchanges a few days ago and found that country correspondence was regularly received from neighborhoods bearing such atrocious names as Shanty ville, IJogto-nu, Hog Back, Fiddler's Ridge, Poverty Run, Mudhole, Dutch Row, Hardscrabble, Toad Centre and Potato Ridge and we have right here at home Frogtown, Muletown and Bum- town. Tin't it about time that the residents of such neighborhood evinced sufficient I pride to do away with the nicknames and adopt for their home villages or neighborhoods, titles that would be at leabt better sounding if not more correctly descriptive of the present appearance of the place? Something is the matter with the good people who continue to acknowledge Shanty vilel, as their home.

Perhaps the name of their abode has destroyed their It is an awful thing to acknowledge one lives in Shantyville or Dogtown. Pick out, a new name, neighbors, and make it stick. The Home Paper Ex-Governor Francis once said the following of newspapers: "Each year the local paper gives from $500 to $1,000 in free lines to the community in which it is located.

No other agency can or will do this. The editor, in proportion to his means, does more for his town than any other ten men, and in all fairness he ought to be supported--not because you like him or admire his writings, but because the local paper is the best investment a community can make. It may not be brilliantly edited or crowded with thought, but financially it is of more benefit to the community than the preacher or teacher. Understand me, 1 do not mean mentally and yet on moral questions you will find most of the papers on the right side. Today the editor of the local papers do the most for the least money of any people on earth." '3." Express Trains SUNDAY TRAINS Lv.

The parent is expressly authorized to select the high school to be attended, provided, always, he selects a high school that offers a program of studies extending through four school years. The consent of the Board of llcluca- tioii that maintains the high school must be secured. The parent thereafter requests the school directors of the district, in which he resides, to approve the high school so selected.

When a transfer is made the tuition must be paid by the school district in which the pupil resides. The duty of collecting the tuition devolves upon the Board of Education that maintains the high school. The tuition must be paid from any funds of the district not otherwise appropriated. The tuition, in no case, must exceed the per capita cost of maintenance. The Act of 1913 does not eO'ecl school districts that provide work in the ninth and tenth grades until the work of such is completed.
