Written by Miss Katz and directed by Huyck, it's a thoroughly dismal horror picture that is sleep-inducing rather than hair-raising. It seems that there is this Dark Messenger (or Messiah of Evil) that plagued a small California beach town 100 years ago.

Before disappearing into the ocean he promised to return a century later. A survivor of the Donner Party, he developed a taste for human flesh. When the vestigating the legend. His traveling companions are sultry Anitra Ford and saucy Joy Bang. Alas, there's not an ounce of credibility in "Messiah of Evil," which is hopelessly vague and illogical.

Making matters even worse is the film's lethally slow pace. The three key actresses are at least poised Miss Hill is especially lovely and tries hard to bring conviction to the nonsense but Greer is miscast in what is, to begin with, an ill-defined part Considering what Miss Katz and Huyck have done since and what Huyck accomplished as a USC studentone had hoped that "Messiah of Evil" might turn out to be something like that ghoul classic "The Night of the Living Dead." Instead, it's a stinker through and through. The second feature is "The Flesh and Blood Show." Puente 3 Fashion Sq. 2 aloha bobby RosEiPSieKw-ioxi TWl LITE HR. 5:30 to 6 ARM Acad.

MAJESTYK(PG) 845 ics of the late Bruce Lee in Chiba, who grunts, groans and grimaces as he kicks, jabs and grabs with the proficiency of a Sumo wrestler but the delicacy of a bull. Action shots were directed by three martial-arts specialists and some of the fight scenes are suspenseful and well choreographed. Kenji Tsuka-koshi's photography is competent; the gallons of paint look like blood and the dubbing isnt bad. Even though the production is more polished and the violence more graphic, "The Street Fighter" is just another implausible, boring and silly kung fu movie. LINDA GROSS the man doesnt have enough money to pay him.

But quite inexplicably, Chiba changes gears when gangsters from the Yakuza and Mafia ask him to kidnap the heiress of an oil empire (lovely Doris Nakajima). He refuses and sets out with his sidekick (well played by Gerald Yamada) to rescue the girl. He must contend with a particularly nasty American bad guy, a lethal "dragon lady" and a brother hell-bent on revenge. But Chiba is indomitable. Even after being shot and stabbed, he manages to wipe out half an army of villains aboard an oil tanker and save Miss Nakajima.

Don't look for the graceful acrobat "The Street Fighter" (citywide), a sickening and slick kung fu-karate movie which stars massively muscular Sonny Chiba, has been rated for violence by the Motion Picture Assn. of America. Although nonstop eye-gouging, throat-ripping, skull-crushing and body-breaking are customary kung fu gore, "The Street Fighter's" dubious distinction is to show the results of the character's actions. When Chiba castrates a rapist and tears the throat out of another enemy, the camera lingers ad nauseam. Chiba plays a hulking, half-breed street fighter who kills the brother of a prisoner he has helped escape when Alondra Acad.
