Casey found the morale high among the troops in spite of this being a frustrating war.

It's no fun, as he says, to chase 150 Viet Cong all night, only to come out into a field in the dawn and find they've turned into farmers with no evidence of firearms anywhere. One thing disturbing Casey after his trip was the feeling that our troops were getting a distorted view of our riots and anti-war demonstrations here. He believes the Stars and Stripes service newspaper and other news reports received over there have blown up these incidents beyond their proper proportion. At one point in their itinerary he and George were captives in a bus they were aboard while it was surrounded by 2,000 Vietnamese anti-war demonstrators, some of whom pounded on the bus for 45 minutes. "All we could do was sit there and smile," Casey recalls.
