City- Zip. Sponsored for Charity by the Los Angeles Times GAME TO CAP USC FOOTBALL DRILLS The fruits of 20 days of spring labor will be dangled before the knowInge gaze of USC Trojan football fans this afternoon.

Coach John McKay's 1967 club will wind up its spring drills with the annual intrasquad game at Cromwell Field. The game won't begin until 4 p.m., so that area fans can enjoy the best of two worldstrack (the USC UCLA meet) and football. The spring-long quarterback battle between senior Toby Page and sophomore Mike Holmgren will continue today, with Page quarterbacking the Red unit and Holmgren the White. 0 $5 per day $4 per day In a scrimmage a week ago, Holmgren hit on 18 of 28 for 227 yards and a touchdown, and Page on 24 of 43 for 236 yards. Joining Holmgren in the Whites' backfield will be tailback Steve Dale, flanker Rikki Aldridge and fullback Mike Hull, who was Troy's leading ball carrier last season, with 502 yards and a 6.7 Page in the Reds' starting unit will be senior tailback Steve Grady, flanker Jim Lawrence and fullback Dan Scott, one of the Trojans' finest spring players so far.

Last Saturday, Scott gained 148 yards in 24 carries. Prep Standouts Sign 'Letters of Intent' A11-CIF quarterback Rick Pope, who led El Rancho High to the CIF Southern Section's AAAA football crown last fall, has signed letter of intent to enroll at UCLA in September. Pope, who also is an honor student, was among several hundred high school and junior college athletes from across the nation who signed letters of intent for AAWU schools. Meanwhile, halfback Mickey Cureton, the CIF player of the year from Centennial High, who is the target of an intense recruiting battle between UCLA and USC, has not yet signed a letter of intent. USC also picked up a fine array of football talent, including All-CIF end Terry DeKraai from Long Beach City College, halfback Mike Jeter of Gardena, who also is a star hurdler; Walt Failor, an all-state end from Aberdeen, the Morgan twins, Jim and Mike, from Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, and Wayne Yary of Bellflower, whose older brother, Ron, is an All- American tackle at Troy.

The Trojans also got three top basketball players in Verne Chadwick of Covina, Hal Calbom of Longview, and Ivan, Browning of Ponte Vedra, plus pole vaulter Paul Heglar of Pasadena City College. Also intending to enroll at UCLA are fullbacklinebacker Bob Bartlett, All-City tri-player of the year from Carson High; Doug Diebolt, Northern California lineman of the year from Los Altos, and quarterback Bill Susa, AllCity tri-player of the year from Reseda. In addition, the Bruins got Wayne Collett, star sprinter quarter miler from Gardena High, and Jeff Borowiak, a top junior tennis player from Lafayette. Signing a letter of intent means the athlete must enroll at that school if he plans to compete athletically in the AAWU. However, he still must be accepted for entrance, and the letter of intent does not prevent him from competing at a non-conference school or a junior college.

Smith Favored to Win Sectional Singles Title Stan Smith, USC's No. 1 tennis player, is favored to win the men's singles title in the 81st annual Southern California Sectional championships, which begin a nine-day run at 9 a.m. today at the Los Angeles Tennis Club. Seeded behind Smith are, in order, Allen Fox, winner of the Pacific Southwest crown last year; Bob Lutz of USC, Jim Osborne of the University of Utah, Jim McManus of Berkeley, Gary Rose of UCLA, Steve Tidball of UCLA and Dave Reed, now a post-graduate student at UCLA. Smith was a finalist last: year in the Southern Cal tourney, losing to Arthur Ashe, who is playing in Atlanta in preparation for the Davis Cup team's next matches at Mexico City.

In women's singles, Tory Fretz of Los Angeles, who lost to Billie Jean King in the finals last year, is top- BOWLING SCRIBES FETE TONIGHT Naming of the 1967 Southern California "Bowlers of the Year" and the annual all-star teams will highlight the 15th Bowling Writers Awards Banquet at 6:30 tonight in the Statler Hilton Hotel.
