I California JCs Won't Follow No 'Dunk' Rule BY SHAV GLICK TImit Stiff Writer The "dunk" shot will not disappear completely from the California basketball scene.

The California Junior College Assn. has voted to go along with the tnew NCAA "no dunk" "rule. V. vi: The decision followed a vote of, the coaches, 59-9, against adopting the rule. The so-called "dunk" or "stuff shot was outlawed by the National Basketball Rules Committee earlier in the year.

The new rule will apply to all college, AAU, high school and JC -games. Only the California JCs and jthe professional leagues will continue to use the crowd pleasing shot. Outsiders Hit The group also passed' legislation aimed at preventingor at least, cut-. ting down the use of out-of-state athletes, by Cali-fornia junior colleges. "It's our job to keep competition even. Arranging formulas for that purpose is a foremost consideration." There were cries of foul when the turbine came to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this year. Op-; ponents contended it wa3 like letting a motorcycle in a bicycle race and the piston engine drivers would be battling only for second place. Estimated Cost "There were no ground 1 rules for a turbine, and we think we came up with a pretty good formula for one," Banks said. J. Foyt won the race in a Coy ote-Ford he helped design. Granatelli, president of Studebaker STP Division and turbine sponsor, said: "Although we were knocked out by a freak failure of a $10 ball bearing assembly, a one in a million failure, we proved without question the tur-bocar is the racing machine of tomorrow." Whether the turbine is permitted to race further against the conventional piston engines might be settled when the USAC rules committee meets Monday. Hill, looking tired after his all night flight from the United States, registered 1:25.6 for the day's best lap.

That's a full five seconds better than the record for this 2.6-mile track. Hi3 average was 109.57 m.p.h. compared with the record of 103.52 held jointly by Jim Clark of Scotland and Denis Hulme of New Zealand. Second fastest driver was Dan Gurney of Riverside who did 109.36 m.p.h. in his Gurney Weslake Eagle.

duce the turbine car. He said there still were some costs' to figure but the Pratt Whitney aircraft-type' engine would be about $30,000 and the Chassis about $37,500. He said this was about $15,000 more than the typical piston model, but the turbine engine would last for 10 years of racing while two, three or more piston engines are sometimes needed in one season. The sportsman-industrialist said he has had several inquiries and "as soon as we have 10 firm orders in hand, we will start production at our Paxton shops in Santa Monica." Granatelli said he didn't plan to put the turbine on the shorter tracks of the circuit because Jones, has no desire to drive in other championship-type races and the car must be returned to a a Monica for, a thorough check.
