Playing coach Charlie Burns of the Seals protested the game before the third period started following a mixup by the officials. The current lease to Boys, Inc. expires in 1969, but must be renewed through closed bids in December of 1966. Boys, in turn subleased to Del Mar Turf Club, a California corporation. The racing is run by Operating Company, its alter ego. It has been estimated that purchase of Boys, would cost around $1.2 million.

Foot in Door This would be only a foot in the door since Del Mar Turf Club and Operating Company run the racing, and will through 1969 unless a separate transaction is negotiated. Purchase of Boys, may be the right step toward getting the lease, but hardly insures it. Why do the Murchison interests want out? Boys, Inc. has been In tax litigation since its inception. The point of the Internal Revenue Dept.

seems to coincide with that of the California Franchise Tax Board that Boys, Inc. "was not organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes." In any event, C. W. Murchison has indicated he's fed up with it all. Alessio Interested "It appears," he was quoted as saying, "to be as hard to give money away intelligently as it is to make it." His son, who has shown a keen interest in pro football through the Dallas Cowboys, has spent little or no time at Del Mar during the racing seasons.

While the complexities of the situation prompted Alessio to say a while back that he was no longer interested in Del Mar a lot of racing people here feel he is still in the picture. Gabriel, on the other hand, is an outspoken bidder. He feels that if he can purchase Boys, Inc. all the other pieces in this complex financial jig saw puzzle will fall into place.
