6 Part DEC 23.1964 2ir MOVIE CALL SHEET Pianist Hawes Revisits Jazz 'Shoot Louder' Open Today 'Shoot Loud, Louder I Don't Understand," Joseph E. Levine's new color comedy starring Mar-cello Mastroianni and Ra-quel Welch, opens today at the Tivoli Plaza picture presents Italy'i leading romantic) star as a struggling Waltei Mitty type of sculptor, with Miss Welch as hi3j dream girl. The second attraction is. "Wild Wings," a 40-minuteJ color picture which this' year has won film awards in Berlin, Prague and Edinburgh. Van Dyke to Star in 'Chitty' Clarence.

Chichester. Hawes and Garrison have been breaking it up at New York's Village Vanguard, a cellar club in Greenwich Village. Garrison's bass work is remarkable. Given the opportunity to "stretch out" for fully 10 minutes on "Manha de Carnaval" from "Black Orpheus" or improvise oh an original "we haven't found a name for it yet," Garrison comes up with some outstanding bow work and even uti lizes the instrument guitar fashion. Hawes and Garrison solo in turn for varying lengths of time and are reminiscent of Bill Evans and the late Scott LaFaro.

Most of Hawes' major recorded work dates to the late 1950s with a trio which featured bassist Red Mitchell. Before launching the trio with Harrison, he worked with the quintet of drummer Shelly Manne and gigged around the Los Angeles area. most a decade has passed to play a Russian expatri-ate in Universal' "Games," starring Simone Signoret, James Caan and Katharine Ross. Character actor Peter Brocco has been set by producer George Edwards since pianist Hampton Hawes became a fixture on the West Coast jazz scene. Now he has come back East. The Warfield-DFI Production is based on Ian Fleming's novel about the inventor-explorer Commander Ca-racatacus Pott, whose magical car carries his family through a whirlwind and humorous fantasy tour. Filming will begin in England in mid-1967 from a screenplay by Roald Dahl. The music score will be by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman.

Van Dyke, currently before the cameras In "A Garden of Cucumbers," has "A Thrill a Minute" to complete before heading for England and the new project. Tour de France," a con-temporary adventure-comedy-romance based on the annual French bicycle racing event, will be produced on location by Paramount Pictures next spring in conjunction with Joseph M. Schenck Enterprises. Bernard Schwartz will produce it in cooperation with Jacques Goddet, manager of L'Equipe, French sports daily. Jack Davis, who wrote the script for "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines," will write the screenplay.

Alex Montoya and Perry Lopez have been signed for roles in Ivan Tors' production "The Unkillables," now shooting in Miami under producer Gene Levitt and director Laslo Bene-dek. Lloyd Bridges heads the cast of the Paramount release. Eddy Ryder, Gil Lamb, Wil Jordan and Don Newman have been set by Five Oaks Productions heads, Ric Marlow and Fletcher Fist, to round out the male featured roles in the com-panys "Veni, Vidi. Vici," which rolls Jan. 15 with John Ireland heading the cast.

William Clothier will act as cinematographer for Ifavil L. Wolper's "The Devil's Brigade" for United Artists. William Hol-den will star and Andrew V. McLaglen direct with Wolper producing beginning April 15 in Salt Lake City. Stanley Todd Enterprises has acquired all rights to a story by Marcia Le-gere called "The Long Road to Mesquite," a western set about the turn of the century.

It is planned as a starring vehicle for Joi Lansing, who is currently co-starred in the Woolner "Hillbillys in the Haunted Paul E. Burns has been set for the role of a bum vhom Robert Redford be-friends in Hal Wallis' "Barefoot in the Park," for Paramount. Also starred are Jane Fonda, Charles Boyer and Mildred Nat-wick. Gene Saks is directing. Singer Lynn Harper will star in "the Boy From Blue Ridge," which rolls for Ronald K.

Leonard Productions in January. The screenplay for the independent film was written by Leonard. Athena Lorde has been signed for a featured role in Warner "Fire-c starring James Stewart and Henry Fonda, which Philip Leacock is producing and Vincent McEveety is directing. Dr. Joe Carson, one-time Mexican hea-v i professional wrestler turned actor, has been signed by producer- director John Sturges for a role in "The Law and Tombstone," starring James Garner, Jason Ro-bards and Robert Ryan.

The Mirisch-Kappa production is now filming in Mexico for United Artists release. Writer Larry Marcus has been set to work on the script of "Me and the Arch Kook Petulia," to star Julie Christie. Rich- ard Lester will direct and Ray Wagner produce beginning in February. Tho story is based on a novel by John Haase, soon to be published. Kirk Douglas has named Eleanor Wolquitt as administrative head and story editor for his Bryna Productions.
