4-0411 Music Unit Plans Annual Debut Night The Young Musicians Foundation reaches a milestone in its 10 -year history with its annual Debut Night scheduled for Sunday evening, Dec. 12, at 8 in the Pavilion of The Music Center. Following a tradition set at the first Debut Night in September, 1960, in Hollywood Bowl, Debut Grant winners will appear as soloists with the Debut Orchestra. On the podium will be Lawrence Foster, assistant conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. This year's Debut Orchestra comprises 58 musicians with an average age of 17 no one is over 25, many are only 14 or 15.

Music director is Ingolf Dahl and the conductor is Michael Tilson Thomas, who made his bow at the helm of the orchestra at the first YMF concert Oct. 22. More than 100 young musicians have received professional exposure under the auspices of the YMF since the first concert in January 1956. The two soloists who will be spotlighted Dec. 12 are Edward Auer, piano soloist, who was 14 when he participated in the first YMF concert in January 1956.

He will be heard in the Chopin Piano Concerto in minor No. 1, Opus 11. Soloist in the Schumann Cello Concerto in A minor, Opus 129, will be Stephen Kates, 22-year-old cellist who won the most recent YMF $1,000 Debut Gran in the June 1965 Debut Auditions and who subsequently appeared in Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. The program will be completed by Copland's "El Salon Mexico." BEDLAM REVISITEDTeen-agers were in majority at "The Big T.N.T. SCOTT Tlmti Still Wrlur Several hundred screaming teen-agers and some older, long-haired hippies were treated to a free pop-folk-rock bash at Hollywood's Moulin Rouge Monday and Tuesday nights when Henry Saperstein's 12-act variety film, "The Big T.N.T. (Tune 'n' Talent) Show," was shot on stage before a live audience. The movie, which was filmed In a process similar to that used for last year's "The T.A.M.I. Show" a combination of TV and cinema techniques will be distributed by American International Pictures.

Special premiere engagements are booked on New Year's Eve and a general theater release is planned for Jan. 26. "The Big T.N.T. Show" stars, In alphabetical order, Joan Baez, The Bards, Ray Charles and band, Petula Clark, Donovan, Bo Diddley, The Levin' Spoonful, Roger Miller, David McCallum, Modern Folk Quartet, Ike and Tina Turner and the Ronnettes. Constant Hubbub The "live" audience at the Moulin Rouge lived up to its name, keeping the huge auditorium in a constant hubbub of noise except for intermittent periods when quiet was demanded.

David McCallum, first to appear on the platform as conductor of the 29-piece orchestra, which included instruments rather foreign to rock 'n' roll such as the oboe, put teeners into a tremendous tizzy. When the start of shooting was delayed for a variety of reasons and even when several "takes of the first number were re-quired, kids remained good-natured because their hero was involved. At other times they became a restless, fretting group of youngsters. They had queued up for at least an hour, starting at 3:30 p.m., outside the theater before being admitted. At 6 o'clock a spokesman an-nounced that refreshments would be served.

Cheers! Fashion Display The youngsters and Borne older witnesses provided quite a fashion show. There were few 1 "short hairs" present and an uninitiated person had to look closely to see whether he was he or she. Girls predominated. One Wore what looked like a HELD OVER!
