109, O. O. sept. 18. 1887.

The following preamble and resolutions were presented by a committee and unanimously adopted. Whereas. The Supreme Ruler of the universe has taken from our midst the wife and helpmate of our worthy brother J. W.Brooks, leaving him in the prime of life, with the responsibility and care of three small chile ren. While we cannot and do not know the wisdom of our Grand Master of the grand lodge above, in causing this dark cloud of tfniction upon our Brother, we no realize tbe fact, that we are dependent beings, that we are here only for a season, that all must die, and in this act of God, although it may seem more than we can bear, let us bow submissively to His will and "trust in Him" for His mercy and love endureth forever.

Therefore be it Resolved, That we, as a Lodge, and as individuals, extend to Brother J. W. Brooks our heartfelt sympathy in this his hour of trial, and that we recognize the sign of distress, and will hasten to extend such relief as is within our power. While we are un ed and just what it means. 7th.

Mr. Adam Jellison was a caller at our office last Monday, and paid the Reporter a very high compliment by saying that the growth and prosperity of our city is due to the push and energy of our paper. Thanks, Mr. Jellison. lite a number of our citizens were at Kansas City last week attending the Fair and taking a look ut President Cleveland aud his wife.

We hear many compliments paid Mrs. Cleveland, but very few for Grover. Mrs. C. seems to be the drawing card.

The Democrat of last week virtually says to the Republicans of this county who voted for Ulisk: You helped as to elect Glick; but you were fools for voting for our candidate, and we don't thank you for it." Republicans should remember this, aud iu the future act accordingly. The Democrat don't want, and don't thank Republicans for voting for their candidates. At the races in this city last Wednesday McLen nan's norsa "Beecher" won -the running race in three straight heats. In this they differ very materially from Democratic editors, born since the war, for the majority of them can be, and even go so fat in their own blindness, that they lose sight of tbe important fact, that soldiers born since the war, cannot be led blind-folded." They will be forcibly reminded of this at our next election, however, for though the S. of Vs, and old veterans too, like Arnold, personally, they will cast their votes for the candidate who has earned his position, and has filled tbe same satisfactorily for the past year. 4th. Does the Democrat try to tell us that the fact that the State Savings Ass'n exists to-day.

is because Arnold Dolde Is its secretary. Does that light weight and light headed champion of Democracy mean to assert that the reputation and financial backing of the State Savings Association rests upon Arnold Dolde's shoulders We don't believe it, even though Arnold does. Do you rate the standing of a merchant by his book-keeper, a railroad by its agent, or a bank by its cashier or teller? The county commissioners can well feel insulted over the statement or inference that their judgment was based upon the mere fact that Arnold Dolde was secretary of the association, and if the Democrat is in earnest in such a state ment or argument, we want to know if they opposed tbe action of the commissioners and fought for Mr. Powers, because they believed Mr. Dolde irresponsible and incapable of handling the county funds properly or honestly Why this change In the policy or opinion of the Democrat? Again, if Mr.

Dolde is such an invaluable man to the States Savings Association, why does that institution want to get rid of him Certainly he cannot run both offices, and if he is elected he will certainly take the treasurer's office, else be would have declined the nomination. There seems to be many inconsistencies in a Democratic argument Finally, we oppose Mr. Dolde we firmly believe he ia not competent to take and fill the office Perfectly honest as far as we know, but too young, inexperienced and egotistical.
