FASHION Cunningham Sportswear With Flair REALITY I decided to produce a sportswear line I was determined to do a collection with a high level of design at realistic prices," said swimwear manufacturer Bob Cunningham during a personal appearance and informal modeling of his fallwinter collection in the Town and Travel section at Bullock's Westwood. Cunningham's two Christine Albers and Nellica Beitner, have provided a high level of design in clothes with a great deal of fashion-albeit very wearable. Cunningham has held the prices from $60 to $95. The sizing is just a realistic-6 to 14 and promising 16s next season. The fashion flair is probably most apparent in Christine Alber's cossack tunic blouse a and swirling circular skirt of printed acrylic knit.

Another interesting innovation is a striped challis wrap blouse that leaves a lot of decolletage protected by a tiny matching bra. These are teamed with solid-color pants. Nellica Beitner, who is bit more tailored-minded than the other designer, turns out a pantsuit in a spaced geometric print. The jacket, when worn unbelted, streaks slim and sleek to mid-hip above slim matching pants. As Cunningham has his own factory, where he also produces his swimsuit lines, he has great quality control.

"I demand has fine workmanship," he says. "That's why I pay my workers by the hour rather than by the piece. There's no incentive to rush and skimp on the work." Fabrics in the collection include rayon crepe and challis, polyester and cotton poplin, acrylic knits. The holiday line, not yet in the store includes glitter knits, sculptured panne and chiffon.
