There is nothing else really comparable in the market, and that's all that parents will need to know this holiday season. The veteran Wolf-gang Reitherman produced and directed and George Bruns did the builds to that smashing battle, stops in it3 tracks for a pretty love song (which at the preview produced a rush for the water fountain), then builds again to the slam-bang finale.

Even at 83 minutes, the Larry Clemmons story could have used a bit of tightening, or some M.II1HI I HI 1 a funeiif, fysmi? mo? le. :1 If 7 tJ -Metromedia-TV I i'l an Animated Offering BY CHARLES C1IAMPL1N Timet Bnttrtammwit editor Roger Miller, who also contributes three of the songs, is a minstrel rooster served up as narrator. The best sequences are very good fun: Robin and Little John disguised as fortune-tellers and conning the prince out of everything but his underwear; Robin disguised as a stork winning an archery contest; the knockabout battle with the sheriff's men which follows (partly to the strains of ''On the escape from the castle; and the prince and the snake practically anytime. "Robin Hood," the studio's city-wida Christmas offering, is the 21st full-length animated Disney feature. And the hallmarks are there as they ever were: the incomparably rich, full animation, the humanized animal characters perky, individual and enchanting, and the wild, inventive slapstick action. The use of famous voices, tried successfullv in "The Jungle Book," works well again in "Robin Hood." Peter Ustinov as the wicked Prince John, a mangy lion under a crown several reigns too large for him, and Terry-Thomas as Sir Hiss, a petulant python who is part Iago and part court jester, match their vi gorous voices to the animators' most amusing characterizations and steal the show.

Robin Hood himself is a sly fox and the cocky cockney accents of Brian Bedford were a just -right choice. Phil Harris is Little John, a Southern bear; Andy Devine is Friar Tuck, a badger with bushy evebrows suspiciously like Devine's own; Tat But- jT X.
