Akron Beacon Journal Ohio.com INFORMING. ENGAGING. ESSENTIAL. Sunday, January 28, 2018 From previous column From previous column From previous column From previous column From previous column wide open for those lucky enough to venture there. Audrienne loved animals and couldn't get passed a dog without getting in a few pats on the head.

In addition to a jealous cat or two, Audrienne's favorite dog, a stray named Sassy, became a beloved family member for years. A loyal Cleveland sports fan, she watched every game she could from afar and still thought it was 'fun' to go to a Browns game as recently as October despite their winless record. She had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good time, especially if it was accompanied by a good glass of merlot. Her easy laugh often seen in pictures will be remembered by many. Audrienne is survived her husband of 35 years, Larry King; daughters, Lori DiTomaso and Michelle (Sam) Rohm; stepson, John (Jaime) King; sister, Laura Crane, and brother, David Robinson; nieces and nephews and, of course, their latest canine child, Roscoe.

The outpouring of support from family, friends and coworkers has been amazing and heartwarming. Thanks to all of you. The family is planning a celebration of life for Audrienne in May with a dedicated church service in Akron followed by refreshments in a springtime setting (to be announced). We will all raise a glass, share a story and Just the way she would want it. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Valley Humane Society, 15699 W.

Aniceto Casa Grande, AZ 85193 or One of a Kind Pets, 1929 Market Akron, OH 44313. Iris Elaine McClain Bessie (Jaquith) Nystrom, she was a lifelong resident of the area. Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William McGurk, and her sister, Pauline (Nystrom) Dobbins, she is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Gruccio (Roger); sons, William McGurk (Terri) and Daniel McGurk (Lois); and grandchildren, Renee, Becca, Mia, Shannon, Nicole, Jennifer, Emily, Jeremy and Jonathan; 12 greatgrandchildren; nieces and nephews near and far, and many dear friends and neighbors. Peg graduated from Akron Central High School and later from Hammel Business College. She worked at the Flueger Company for several years before accepting a secretarial position at Goodyear Aerospace where she worked during World War II.

The majority of her life was spent raising her three children; volunteering at many of their school functions, including serving many years on the Ellet High School Band Boosters. She was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Ellet, serving many years on the bereavement committee and a member of the Council of Catholic Women. In her 70s, she joined the Senior Strutters and danced at mall events and, as she put it, for the "old" people in nursing homes. Peg was the kind of person who loved people.

She helped anyone who needed help. She always had a smile in her voice as well as on her face. She lived life in a positive way, never judging people, always trying to build others up. She was a light in the darkness to all who were lost. She loved the Lord and served Him by reaching out to others and being so loving and kind.

Her family was the light of her life and meant the world to her. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Maplewood Senior Living of Cuyahoga Falls who treated our mother as they would their own. They all went above the call of duty every day in caring for not just our mother, but all of our family as well. They are angels on earth and we love them all! We also want to express our deep gratitude to the staff of Harbor Light Hospice. They made the entire process so much easier with the loving care of our mother that extended to every family member as well.

Their quiet efficiency, knowledge and caring was so welcome at this difficult time. We love each one of them! He loved his patrolmen and protected them as well as anyone could. He served as firearms instructor, hostage negotiator, and SWAT team member, and qualified as expert in domestic violence, counter-terrorism, forensic collection, cybercrime, human trafficking, child abuse, and FEMA service. His proudest moment was performing CPR on a girl hit by a car, bringing her back to life and consequently awarded Officer of the Year. Rick's passion was hunting. He grew up hunting with his father, grandfather, and great uncle Joe, hunting squirrels, rabbits, and whitetail deer in Ohio.

Later, he moved further afield for wild boar, javelina, elk, mule deer, pronghorn antelope, and bison in the U.S., then caribou, black bear, grizzly bear, and mountain goat in Alaska and southern Canada. He and his father dreamed of hunting together for bigger game, so he fulfilled his father's and grandfather's aspirations of travelling even further. In northern Canada, he teamed with the Inuit for musk ox and travelled to Africa for leopard, cheetah, hippopotamus, war-thog, eland, kudu, steen-bok, kori bustard, cape buffalo, and elephants. In Australia, he hunted water buffalo and fished for Spanish mackerel. His dreams for hunting even more were tragically cut short.

At home, he dearly loved his childhood German shepherd, Wolf, his Maltese Noste, and his feisty Shih Tzu, Scrunchy. He loved to eat, always trying new foods and restaurants and cooking multiple-course themed dinners for his family and friends. He enjoyed travelling with his wife, Randi all over the United States, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Germany, and Austria. Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Margaret Pahlau and Melvin and Dorothy Stermer; his father and mother, Richard and Judith Stermer Pahlau, and his brother Ronald Pahlau.
