Drainage enterprises in Iowa were bperated for 6,248,189 acres in 1929 as compared with'5,224,478 acres in 1919, an increase of 19.6 per cent, according to a statement issued by the director of the census at .Washington. The census figures for Iowa show 4,929 miles of open ditches, 115 miles of levees and dikes and 12,972 mles of tile drains. In Cerro Gordo county land in drainage enterprises totaled 115,381 acres. Three hundred eighty-two acres were listed as unfit for crops because of. lack of drainage and land drained and fit for normal crops amounted to 86,232 acres. Land partly drained and fit for part of a crop reached 28,277. Total land In the county was listed as 115,331 screa and the land planted in 1929, as 114,931 acres. Capital invested in drainage enterprises was placed at $2,324,579. Land in drainage enterprises in Floyd county: totaled 36,975 acres with none listed as unfit for crops Tiecause of lack of drainage. There were-36,963 acres of land drained which were : tillable fit for a normal crop and only 12 acres were listed as partly drained for a portion of crop. Littlo Not Used. In Franklin county there were 147,717 acres of land in a drainage enterprise with 40 acres-listed as land miflt for crops because of lack of drainage. Land drained fit for a normal crop was placed at 146,427 acrea while land partly drained and fit for a part of a crop was 1,250 acres.., Land in Hamilton county in (drainage enterprises was 240,781 acres with 3,600 acres unfit for crops because of lack of drainage and 222,934 acres of laud listed as drained and fit for a normal crop. Land partly drained and tillable for a part crop amounted to 14,247 acres. The census listed 252,807 acres of land in drainage enterprises in Hancock county with 4,469 acres of land unfit for crops for lack of drainage, 205,603 acres of land drained and fit for a normal crop and 42,735 acres of land partly drained and fit for part crop. In Hardin county there were 152,545 acres of land in drainage enter. prises, 97 acres of land unfit for crop for lack of drainage, 152,368 acres of land drained and fit for a "~li(Srm'al.,crap and 80 acres of land partly drained and tillable for part of a crop. Listed In Howard. Howard county had 7,419 acres of land in drainage enterprises with 35 acres unfit for crops for lack of drainage, 7,042 acres of land drained and fit for a normal crop and 342 acres of land partly drained and fit for a part of a crop. There were 505,404 acres of land in Kosauth county in drainage enterprises, 1,000 acres of land unfit for crop because of lack of drainage, 503,033 acres drained and fit for a normal crop and 1,366 ares of partly drained' land fit for a part fit a crop. - . In Mitchell county there were 11,867 acres of land hi drainage enterprises with 222 acres of land unfit for crop for lack of drainage, 10,914 acres of land drained and fit for a normal crop and 831 acres partly drained and fit for a part of a crop. Palo Alto Has Much. Palo Alto county had 227,094 acres of land in drainage enterprises of which 1,110 were unfit for crop for lack of drainage, 198,40? were drained and fit for normal crops and 27,577 were partly drained and fit for part of a crop. There were 132,987 acres in Winnebago county drainage enterprises. Three thousand, two hundred twenty-five acres of land were unfit for crops for lack of drainage, 126,762 were drained and fit for a normal crop and 3,000 acres were partly drained and fit for part o'f a crop. In Worth county there were 84,652 acres in drainage enterprises. Land unfit for crop for lack of drainage totaled 4,213 acres, land drained and fit for a normal crop was 64,186 acres and land partly drained and fit for part of crop was 16,253 acres. Altho Wright county_had 250,376 acres in drainage enterprises no land was listed as unfit for crop for lack of drainage. All drained land was fit for a normal crop. Swea City Oil Firm Officers Are Named SWEA CITY, April 2.--The officers of the proposed Citizens Community Oil company were elected yesterday at a meeting in the Legion hall. Those elected were: O. L. :Thoreson, president; Myron Johnson, vice president; three directors, Ed Rohlin, Roal Roalson and George Nyraan. Lloyd Anderson was elected secretary. The company will start functioning as soon as a. tank site can be leased and equipment installed.
