Miss .Colbert spent many years on the stage "finding" her voice. Previous to 1924, she had spoken only three words on the stage, while playing the part of Sybil Blake in "The Wild Westcotts." Her voice range was not fixed. Proof of the development that Miss Colbert has attained ia seen in the successive pictures in which she has appeared, "The Big Pond," "Young Man of Manhattan," "Manslaughter," and, most recently, in "Honor Among Lovers," which is now playing thru Friday at the Pal ace theater. --o-A much heralded screen drama and a loudly lauded new film star, in ,the company of a celebrated movie Idol, made their initial bow to a local audience Tuesday afternoon. The film is the Fox Movie- tone, "Body and Soul," the new star, Elissa I^andi, the sensation of Europe's screen and Broadway's stage, and the idol, one of the talking screen's most popular actors, Charles Farrell. Miss Landi brings to the screen not only beauty but talent. She gives a performance lhat is vivid, intense and delicately shaded at all times arid this reviewer feels absolutely safe in saying that she is unquestionably the most important "find" since the screen aegan to talk. Charles Farrell in :he role of a young and romantic aviator, gives an intelligent and convincing performance which is equal to anything he has previously done. "Body and Soul" tells the gripping story of an American fly- ng ace in the Royal Flying- Corps, vho meets and falls in love with a charming young girl, only to find ilmsclf facing a court martial when he girl ig accused of being a spy. --o--· Five nationally known plnyers vie or comedy honors in Radio Picures' "Leathernecking," which Is laying at the Iowa theater Tues- ay and Wednesday. Foy and Murray are clever audeville and musical comedy tars; the latter vas on the Or- heum circuit eight years, the other ust stepped out of a Fred Stone how, "Ripples." Benny Rubin, re- lembered for his soldier part in Marianne" and other pictures, rings a comedy flair to "Leather- ecking." Ned Sparks, now under ontract to Radio Pictures, and .ionise Fazenda are cast In excellent roles. Opposite the comedians are Irene Dunne, star of zlegfeld's "Showboat;" Lilyan Tashman, the best-dressed woman in films; Rita La Roy, Radio's baby vamp, Baron von Brinckcn, Carl Gerrard and others.
