.-·J- 30 THURSDAY, MAfiCH 23, 1939 FIRE PUT OUT BYCCC GROUP Serious-Blaze Is Averted by Youths of Bancroft Camp ALGONA--A serious tire was averted Wednesday in Algona by the quick action o£ a band of CCC boys from the Bancroft camp wtien they came upon the scene and extinguished a fire on an oil truck stalled in the north part of town on 169. A Barnsdall oil truck from Mallard was in front of the.Matt Lamuth home when it caught on fire as it;was coming up the hill. A. vapor lock formed when Chris Searcy poured gasoline from a can into the carburetor which ignited from the heat .of the motor. The gasoline was on the pavement- and was burning be- rjeath the truck when the CCC boys came aiong. By the time the nre department.arrived they had the blaze under control.' Searcy .suffered second degree burns, about the hands and face and was brought into town for medical' treatment. B. H. Turner also of .Mallard was with the truck,'but was riot burned: Aside from one of the tires which caught on fire, not. much damage was done to the truck. "LEARNS OF DEATH HOCKFORD--Word .has been received by Mrs. Roy Crab tree of the death of her sister Mrs. Lorena. Waudby of Huntington Park, Cal., y who died suddenly of heart disease at Los Angeles, Cal Sunday. WENZEL, 83 Funeral Is Planned Friday Afternoon for Belrnond Woman BELMOND--Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. at the St. John's Lutheran church for Mrs. Barbara Wenzel 83. The Rev. Roy Huck will be in charge of the services at the house at 1:30 p. m. as well as at the church. She was born Aug. 27, 1855 in Hessen Castle, Germany. She came to America in 1871 and in 1875 she was married to Dan Wenzel. They lived near Chicago until 1894 «-hen they moved to Goodell where they lived for many years. She leaves eight children, Adolph, Jack. Carl, Mrs. John Lowenberg, all of Belmond, Mrs. Walter Braga, Meservey; Dan, Thornton; William, Ledyard; Herman, Latimer; 14 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Kate Ripsch and one brother, Ed Habig, both of Pontiac, 111. Suffers Fractured Ankle in Accident CORWITH--Mrs. Charles Beaman suffered a fractured inner ankle bone when she fell from the lower basement, step at her home southwest of Corwith Wednesday morning. She was taken to the Kossuth hospital in Algona for medical care.
