AMES--One-third or the counties in Iowa this spring have requested meetings or demonstrations on installation of water systems, C. H. Van Vlack, extension agricultural engineer at Iowa State college, announced. Mr. Van Vlack, who has been showing farmers how they may install water systems in their homes at low cost, said that interest is constantly increasing. Requests last year for a farm water supply plan service distributed by the extension service increased four times over 1934. .In Floyd. Chickasaw. Jefferson, Floyd, Chickasaw and Story counties have had demonstration installations, and preliminary discussion meetings have been held in 20 other counties, said Van Vlack. Black Hawk is among th« counties making' an intensive drive for farm water system installations as part of a home modernization program. Paul Barger, county agent, reports that 11 communities in the county are interested in demonstration installations. Cost $25 Vf. The demonstrations include actual installation of a complete water system by a group of farmers in a neighbor's home under the direction of the extension engineer. At the end of the day there is water "on tap" in the kitchen sink, and farmers witnessing the demonstration are able to make similar installations in their own homes. The farmer in whose home the installation is made purchases all necessary pipes and fixtures. These may be obtained at a cost of from $25 up, depending on how extensive a system is desired. The simple system includes hot and cold running water provided by the installation of a sink, a shallow well or cistern pump and 'a range boiler. Either hot and cold water may be obtained from the pump by turning a cutoff valve in one of the pipes. 500 Acres in Bird Reserves. ESTHERVILLE, OP)--Five hundred acres of land comprising old lake beds will be set aside and improved as reserves and feeding sites for game birds. Pine trees are to be planted on the higher land to afford shade and shelter. Some dredging also will be undertaken by the Iowa conservation commission. Cows and the Law. Now that milk control has been upheld, the cows must toe the mark and watch their chewing.--Miami Herald. FEDERAL PACKING CO. Phone 746 We Deliver $1 Orders 213 N. Fed. Aye.
