EIGHTEEN ALLOTMENT FOR NAVY APPROVED Funds for. Ship, and Plan Construction Voted by House Committee. '.WASHINGTON, (/Pj--The hous appropriations'committee has ap proved a $526,555,428 allotmen for the navy department lor th next fiscal year. ' The appropriation i n c 1 u d e i .funds-lor the navy's huge ship anc airplane construction program fo the year, beginning July 1. v The committee ignored budge 'demands that would have shot thi supply measure to a new peace .time high' of $562,425,709. I .-lopped ?35,870,281 from the budget figures. That kept the amoun $1,547,104 less than the recort ^peacetime ' appropriation lor the current year. ' , ' The committee cut' $27,000,001 from the $157,000,000 requested for the new ship construction program, but this was described as merely a "deferment," warranted on grounds that' $56,000,000 oi current funds to be unexpended June 30 will be carried over into the next fiscal year. The 5130,000,000 additional appropriation · recommended by the house group compares with ?168,550,000 additional' appropriated for the current year. The money will be used .to start eight, new destroyers and lour submarines and to continue work on two battleships, three aircraft carriers, eleven cruisers, forty- eight destroyers, sixteen submarines and a gunboat. Kossuth Council for P. T.A. Has Sessions TITONKA--The Kossuth county council of tile parent-teachers association met at the high school Wednesday afternoon with the Titonka and Doan units a s ' hosts. Following the business raeeeting, conducted by Mrs. John- Fisher, president of the Titonka council, the fourth and fifth grade danced the minuet in Colonial costume. They were followed by the high school girls' glee club, singing two selections. Miss Alton Smith from the Child Research station at Iowa City gave the talk of the afternoon on "The.Family and the Community." After adjournment, tea was served in the · home economics room. Observes 81st Birthday. ... PLYMOUTH--Mrs. Martha Seeley celebrated her eighty-first birthday anniversary Thursday at her home. Mrs. Seeley is of pioneer type, keeps her home fires burning and assists with the care of her husband, George Seeley Sr. ; who is a paralytic invalid. Radio Broadcast May Be Made From Little 'Church Near Nashua NASHUA--A nationwide radio broadcast may be made direct from The Little Brown church on ihe night of March 27, according to a letter received by ihe Rev. William Kent, pastor, from the manager of the music department of station WLS, Chicago. It is planned on that evening to use the sonir, "The Little Brown Church In tile/Vale" on the National Barn Dance hour, which originates from station WLS, and to pay a tribute to the church and the writer of the.song in a brief special presentation direct from the church itself. Forest City Vote on New Franchise Asked FOREST CITY--A petition was filed in the office of Mayor Wolfs Wednesday asking for an election on a new franchise proposed by the Interstate power company which is at present serving Forest City. The proposed rates in the new franchise, with the exception o£ the large industrial rate, have been revised. No date has been set lor the election by Mayor Wolfs. Congress is blamed for the Ohio river floods. It seems to have a thumb in everything but the dike. --Rochester (N. Y.) Democrat and Chronicle.
