Sccretarj" Prepare 2 Bills to Remove Stigma From Illegitimate Children Des Sloines, (fP)--Two bills tie signed to remove the stigma of illegitimate children are being prepared by the state health department for presentation to the Iowa legislature, Loren Chancellor, director o£ the department's vital statistics division/said Wednesday They would amend present statutes to provide that when a child becomes legitimate by the subsequent marriage of his parents, an affidavit ot such fact may be filed with the slate registrar of vital statistics. They also provide for notification ot the registrar when a court enters a decree declaring a child legally adopted. In the first instance, the department then \vould issue a certificate of birth, identical with thc certificates issued for legitimate births. In cases of adoption, the certificate or abstract o f ' t h e decree would be filed with the original birth record and would not be accessible except upon request of the child, his foster parents, the registrar or upon court order. Upon request, a certificate ot birth also would be issued bearing the name of the child as shown in the decree of adgption. No reference to the adoption would be made, however, in the birth certificate. State health department records showed 535 illegitimate births in Iowa during the first 9 months of 1944. The total for the entire year ot 1943 was 738. PASSENGER TIRES Received more Grade I Passenger Tirct 50 *2l 000x16 · | ' olc " «30xlfi TM*$ s?«s First come. Jir.«t sen.-cd". Montgomery Ward Co.
