. i ^ EIGHTEEN CONSERVATION BOARD CHANGE Bill to Reduce Commission to 3 Full Time Members Filed in House. DES MOINES, (/PJ--W. A. Yager (D) of Spirit Lake, filed with the Iowa house Thursday a bill which would reduce the state conservation commission from a seven member, part time board to a three member, full time .commission. Yager said a companion bill would be introduced in the senate by Senator I. G. Chrystal (D) of Coon Rapids. Northwest Iowa Backers. A campaign for a three member board developed sliorfiy after the forty-seventh general assembly convened, Jan. 11, arid culminated MASUJM LUTY GLOBE-GAZKTTE, L'5 1937 Wednesday in decision to propose the change. , Sponsoring the proposal is a group of northwest Iowa conservationists who contend that the state's conservation program can be more effectively directed by a compact board, serving full time. Yager.said that under the present board, reclamation and development of the state's natural lakes, most of which are in northwest Iowa, has been neglected. Needs Full Time Board. . The conservation program, he added, also has developed to such an extent that "it requires a full time board which is thoroughly informed as to the needs of the entire state." Under the bill, the governor would appoint the board members, "upon a basis of competent knowledge of" conservation. Not more than two could belong to any one political p a r t y . Basketball Delegation of 60 Spends Night in Remvick; Roads Blocked LUVERNE--There were 60 Luverne pupils, teachers and basketball fans, who attended the Little Nine tournament at Renwick last Saturday and on account of the snowstorm, ihey were obliged to stay all night and didn't get home until almost noon Sunday. The men and boys were taken care of at the schoolhouse, while the women and girls were found places in the homes. With the clearing of roads, many dramatic stories have been revealed. A M. and St. L. freight train including two carloads of hogs and cattle, had been stuck in a snowdrift a mile east of town from 6 o'clock Saturday evening until 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The section men covered the north side of the stock cars with tar paper at 2:30 Sunday morning and with the help of 22 men the track was cleared by Sunday afr- ternoon.
