IOWA CITY, C/H -- Th e "Frew Tucker pole" controversy which cut Iowa off a transcontinental air line service headed- toward a solution Thursday. The city council approved a Chamber of Commerce transaction for acquisition of an additional five acres of land on the opposite side of the landing: field from Tucker's farm. The land owner agreed to lease the city the acreage in exchange for use of 15 acres of airport property not utilized as runways. Completion of the deal awaited only approval of United Air Line officials. Meantime a white flag flew from atop the 24 root pole Tucker erected on his land at the edge of the landing- field. Pranksters cut down the pole Tuesday night, but Tucker put it up again. Airline officials said the pole constituted a hazard. TUcker claimed the planes frightened his livestock and clipped branches off his trees. Denying a report the white flag indicated he was willing to talk terms. Tucker said "the flag is white only because I didn't have any red cloth handy." Tucker said he will appeal the injunction which prevents him from erecting any barrier more than 25 feet high on his property adjoining the airport to the supreme court.
