TUESDAY, APRIL 3, 1934 MASON CITY GLOBE-GAZETTE FIVE MODERN HOMEMAKER HAS LEISURE ji _^---. -.. - -- - TM · · "' " ·----··· ·--'-·- ---·-.-- -.,,_ .^-j,...-_ . Equipment Provided to Save Time This Is Mrs. Modern Saving in Dollars and Cents Shown in New Devices. Mrs. Modern--she has chosen homemaking as her profession. She is a successful woman, a happy wife, a good mother, an excellent housekeeper and in most instances does all her own work, for she uses modern appliances. She has earned the title through a new technic in kitchen work. Guesswork in Mrs. Modern's kitchen has been replaced by automatic certainty in the automatic range, refrigeration, dishwasher and water heater. No longer does she stick her hand in the oven and guess the temperature. No longer does she guess that the gelatin will be frozen by dinner time. She sets her oven control. and her cold control. And in many other ways elimination of guesswork allows her to plan ahead, knowing that intelligence, plus the perfection .of modern gas and electrical equipment, insures success. May Be Headworlc. Modern housekeeping may be a matter of intelligent headwork rather than a matter of backbreaking physical labor. To just the extent that the homemaker thinks through and uses the electric wall outlets at her elbow and her automatic gas appliances, to just that extent will she, as Mrs. Modern, be successful in her chosen profession. Is her work routed so that she takes 20 steps instead of 100? Has she a system for washing dishes? Has she placed the cooking and baking utensils so that she can reach them easily at the spot where she needs them? Has she chosen her equipment, wisely? Has she a weekly schedule that allows time for all major household duties? Does her kitchen show the results of logical thinking? It's an unfortunate homemaker who expects sympathy when she wails about what she has denied herself--when she complains of petty pains because of her hard work--when she compares her lot to that of more efficient women. It is no longer necessary for any woman to make herself into a domestic drudge. She must find time each day to devote to herself, for today there is no social approval of the homemaker who works her fingers to the bone. Society approves of the woman who does as little as possible with her hands, as much as possible with her head, and who turns the difficult routine tasks over to the untiring servants -- automatic gas and electric appliances. Don't sigh and say to yourself that naturally every woman would like to have all of these automatic assistants in lire kitchen, but--as for you-you cannot afford them. OJ course, you realize that price and cost are not the same thing. An investment in gas and electric equipment of this kind will bring you returns on your investment. Not only will you save time and energy but you will also have an actual saving of dollars and cents. Is your kitchen one of these kitchens that makes for more leisure time under the NRA or is it one of these 1914 kitchens --poorly lighted, awkwardly ar ranged, drably dingy and whol "ly inefficient? . It doesn't have to be. The Peoples Gas and Electric com pany has instituted a new kitchen-planning .service. Foi a few dollars the entire kitch en plans, including- c o l o r schemes, cupboards, floor cov erings, are at your service Make yours a kitchen that has kept up with you and one o which you may well be proud More Building of Homes Being Predicted Nov Lowered taxes on homes, gradual loosening up of horn mortgage credit, and unprece dented emphasis upoa new HAS AMPLE TIME PROVIDED FOR LEISURE rends in materials and pat- erns for homes are all in the iffing for spring building, ac- :ording to Philip " Lieber of ihreveport. La., president of the United States Building and Loan league. He said it is a practical certainty that the prices of residential real estate will go up and that home construction is going to increase considerably. "During the past year the preliminary report of the committee on double taxation of the house ways and means committee was published, and should have a far-reaching effect upon relieving the home owner from some of his uneven portion of the tax burden," said Mr. Lieber. "At last after many years of haranguing and lambasting we are dealing with facts in regard to home taxa- tion and therefore we have a much better chance to accomplish a fair reduction." Elimination of rivets and bands in the installation of cor-' rugated metal roofing has been accomplished in the plant of the Republic Carbon company, Niagara Falls. N. Y.. by means of electrically welding the sheets. The installation method has been developed by S. M. Me-' Anulty. plant engineer of the company.
