(TJ'i--- 1C the record oC the first 10 days of 1944 is continued, there will be a "terrific toll" of lives taken in Iowa traffic this year, Bert L. Woodcock, director of safety education in the state department of public safety, said. There were H traffic fatalities in the slate for the period Jan. 1-10, he said. That compared with 7 for the same period last year. With the 1943 record not yet complete, it was indicated that the toll for the year would be about 100 fewer than in 1942 when 39S were killed. Woodcock said. He could ascribe no special reason for the heavy loll so far this year, but emphasized that in 2 accidents 2 persons were killed in each, and in those cases the cars involved ran off the roads.
