10 J. W, COUGHLIN, DECORAH, BURIED Man Who Engaged in Farm- % ing at Freeport Survived ' by Widow. DECORAH, Feb. 25. -- J. W. Coughlin, who died Sunday morning at the Decorah hospital following an operation last week for a ruptured appendix, was buried yesterday afternoon. His wife, formerly Windie Robinson, survives him and also his mother, Mrs. Linda Coughlin of Freeport. Mr. Coughlin had been engaged In farming 1 for the past 30 years in and near Preeport. The funeral services were held at the Freeport church with the Rev. O. Sandbach of the M. E. church officiating. Burial was in the Freeport cemetery. MASON CITY GLOBE-GAZETTE Minnesota Fair May Be Educational or Amusement Medium ST. PAUL, Feb. 25. UP)--Whether Minnesota's state fair is to he continued as an educational enterprise or be forced to become principally an amusement medium depends largely on action by the legislature on the fair's proposed building program, ' D. D. McEachin, Ribbing, fair board president, declared today. Expressing the opinion that the fair's proposed §2,000,000 building program covering a 10 year period will receive favorable action at this session, Mr. McEachin asserted that it-is more than a construction proposal because the future policy of the exposition will be determined by the action. "It comes down to this," Mr. McEachin said, "does the state want to continue the fair as an educational institution which will have an important influence for improving every activity in the state, or doe: the state want it to become an amusement enterprise ? The fair can be self-supporting as an amusement, but as an educational enterprise it cannot be expected to be self-supporting- but deserves financial support. It should continue to be educational--improved when possible." Radio Sales Talks in Canada Reduced TORONTO, Feb. 25.--How Canada's radio control situation is rapidly approaching a climax Is shown by a voluntary agreement by all the Canadian broadcasters to limit advertising to 5 per cent of a program's time and to eliminate sales talks on sponsored programs given Sundays. This radical step on the part of broadcasters is viewed as an indication how strong- the forces are which are seeking to ·brin£ about government ownership of broadcasting. Simultaneously the entire question of radio control Is challenged from, the right of provinces to control radio within their own borders. Quebec is seeking a law which will give the provincial government exclusive jurisdiction of radio within tha providence. . Arthur Meighen, former prime' minister of Omaha, said that If radio is left to private enterprise, it is bound to cater to patronage which will reflect dividends for the stockholders. Financial Operation of Schools Follows Other Education Work Is Claim DBS MOINES, Feb. 25. (ff)--The financial operation of Iowa's school system is trailing its other educational work, Miss Agnes Samuelson, state superintendent of public Instruction, said today. "Education is more than a local , responsibility," she asserted. "Many of our boys and girls do not remain m their home districts, but move to adjacent localities and it is hardlv equitable that the home district should carry the entire financial loads." - She urged creation of a state distributive fund to be apportioned among school districts which are in greatest need of additional support. Elected Teachers' President. CEDAR FALLS, Feb. 25.--A C Fuller, associate director of the extension division at the Iowa state teachers college, was elected president of the Teachers college extension association at the annual meeting- in Ypsilanti, Mich., it was announced here today. Clover Seed Worth $15. SPENCER GROVE, Feb. -5 (INS)--Many farmers of this community have threshed their stacks of clover lay to supply a brisk demand for clover seed at $12 to S15 a bushel. Pickle Contracts are Made TrPTON, Feb. 25. (INS)-A representative of a pickling company has been in the vicinity of Tipton obtaining contracts for cucumber .acreage this season under the guarantee of $40 a ton for the product delivered at Rochester where a receiving station will be provided. Two Given Fellowships. GRINNELL, Feb. 25. (UP)-Word has been received here tha Bernard Tebbens of Omaha and Jonn Eisen of Munich, Germany, student of chemistry at Grinnell college have been awarded fellowships bv Brown university at Providence, R J. All tuition and expenses' are provided for in the fellowships. _ Edgar L«e Masters may paint Lincoln as dishonest, lazy and ignorant, but few other people win think that way.--Hardln Countv Citizen (Iowa Falls).
