Football Team to Play Iowa State College Every Year. By GEORGE MILLS Iowa Daily Press Bureau. Drawn and ready for introduction is an Iowa house bill reciuir- ing the University of Iowa football team to play Iowa State each year. The measure, though, temporarily is on the shelf. Plan was to get two legislative alumni from each institution to introduce the bill. Many more than two Ames rooters are willing to sponsor the statute. But the two Iowa alumni who would- go along thus far have not been found. s #テつキ * TWO NICE JOBS Happy landing for many ar Iowa politico would be either of the two pending vacancies on the highway commission. Thus far Governor Kraschel ha insisted that no commitments are out on the two commission appointments to be approved by th Iowa senate this session. Observ ers this week, however, heard per sistent reports that O. J. Ditto ol Siblqy, commission chairman, might be followed in office by State Senator I. G. Chrystal ot Coon Rapids. Verne Wendel of Sioux City was , among the favorites with the ] guesscrs until another Sioux City man, Dr. O'Brian, was named li succeed Mrs. Alex Miller as secretary of state. It isn't likely, they say, that two major appointments will go to Woodbury county in such a brief period of time. Other highway commissioner expected to be replaced is Fred P. Hageman of Waverly. Both Ditto and Hageman are democrats, c * * BLONDS AND BRUNETS Has the record breaking supply of girls--there are 158 secretaries in the legislature this session-dulled senatorial perception? Senator Dec Kimberly of Scott county, veteran legislator, told a hotel lobby gathering that he finally had hired a secretary for the session. "Is she a blond or bmnel? somebody asked. The senator hesitated. "Gosh, I don't know," he finally admitted. HIFT IN G. O. P. Second major battle over state appointments includes a rift of un vnown proportions in' the rank E the G. O. P. slate senate major ty. One group is backing E. IT 'elton of Indianoln for reappoint- ent to the state board of control ind another wants State Senator George Parker of Independence or the job. Since the board is bipartisan, a republican must be named. Third candidate is Mrs. Henry Wood of Moville, the republican nominee for secretary of state ii the last election. So far all the sparring lias been theoretica since Democratic Governor ICra schel hasn't offered anybody' name to the senate for confirma lion. D R . Peisen spoke sternly and the appleseller in the house cloakroom discontinued his line of Washington apples and installed an Iowa brand. DRAGON FLY If Kraschel is watching and waiting for final word on a pas- sible contest from republican George Wilson, his untroubled countenance doesn't show it. Not so with the republicans themselves. The Wilson delay in announcing his decision on whether to contest Kraschel's ,431 victory is getting on the lerves ot some G. O. P. leaders. Particularly those who want a ontest. Dragon fly in the ointment now s the 32,000 the republicans have pent getting "off the record" figures on the governor vote while ballots were being recounted in local and legislative contests. An obviously republican bill was introduced a few days ago, with Gcske's name listed as one of. the filers. The Clayton senator is angry about it, contends he had nothing to do -with the measure and promises a sulphurous answer in a speech this weclc.
