MASON CITY GLOBE-GAZETTE, JANUARY 28 Ml 1937 DEGORAH CIVIL WAR VET BURIED Only Two Old Soldiers in .Winneshiek County Still Living. DECOBAH ~ Funeral services were, held for N. H. Everts, 93 year old Civil war veteran, who died at his home in Hesper Monday night. The services were held in the home. A delegation of V F w. members from the Decorah post attended the services for the Civil war veteran of Winneshiek. -ine only remaining veterans are A. T. Branhagen of Decorah and O. A. Ask o£ Bluffton. Mr. Everts served three years in the war as a volunteer. He was a member of the sixth Minnesota infantry. His widow survives, also two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Edith Griswold, West Concord, Minn.; Mrs. A. Green, a resident of Texas; Zive Everts of Texas and George ot Tennessee. Winneshiek Past $450 Mark in Flood Relief DECORAH--Winneshiek county has already subscribed more than $450 for flood relief. Daily. appeals have been made and subscriptions have been sent to Ben Bear, Red Cross treasurer. WALDORF WILL HONOR FOUNDER Dinner to Be- Given for Salvesen Feb. 8 at Forest City. FOREST CITY--The Hev. C. S. Salvesen, founder of Waldorf college, will be honored by the school on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary o£ his ordination into the Christian ministry. Pastors, relatives, other eo-oworkers and friends have been invited to a dinner to be held at the college at 1 o'clock, Feb. 8. Jackfon Phone 988 enridge institute at Decorah in ·1875-76, and Augustana college from 1877 to 1881. He received his theological training at Augus- tana seminary in Beloit, 1884-86 (C. T.) and was ordaind at Rushford, Minn., Feb. 8, 1887. His first call was at Manilowoc, Wis., where he served for two years before going in Augustana college, Canton, S. Dak., to serve as president. He came to Forest City in 1891, serving the congregations in Forest City, Thompson, Leland, West Prairie and Linden. It was in 1903 that he saw the opportunity to establish a school in Forest City, and through his efforts Waldorf college was opened that fall, and formally dedicated on Oct. 11, 1903. From 19fH to 1911 he served the Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Hills, Minn., congregations, returning to Forest City to serve as financial agent for the college during the year 1911-12. From 19:2 to 1S16 he was paslor ·- the Forest City and Lcland in congregations, nnd in 1917-18 at Cnrrington, N. Dak. For a number of years Mr. Sal- vcson lias lived in Forest Cily where he has kept in close touch with the school and shown a deep and keen inlerest in. Us welfare. Prominent Banker Dies. STACYVILLE--E. M. Stevens, who died suddenly at his home at Evanston, HI., 0 £ a heart attack, was one of the foremost bankers o£ the past 20 years. Mr. Stevens was a frequent visitor at Stacyville as it was here he married Mary Rolfe, daughter o£ Mr, and Mrs. . Charles Rolfe, pioneer citizens. BUTLER VETS PLAN SESSION District Commander Is On ' Program of Legion at Dumdnt. DUMONT--The Dumont Auxiliary and American Legion will be host to the joint meeting of the county Legion and Auxiliary Thursday evening at the Odd Fellows nail.
