Vance, who has operated the Vance Music Company store In Mason City for the past 40 years, has boon named chairman nf the city's 1053 Centennial Celebration Committee, it was announced Wednesday by Leslie G. H a w k i n s , chairman of the preliminary plan- nine committee. Hawkins and Dan K l e i n p n m i c r will he vice chairmen of Hie (icncra committee which will have genera charge of. the observance o f ' the 100th year since the first settlers came to Mason City. This general committee will be expanded to take in all types o community organizations in order to make the celebration an all-city event. Work on the project will under Way I m m e d i a t e l y after La bor Day. While the observance of the con tcnnial will go on throughout thi year, tentative plans provide fo special program tho week of .Tutu 7 to 13. Ono of the days will be devoted to the North Iowa Ham Festival with .100 bands and IOC queens Invited to participate. Churches aro to bo asked to take part in the observance on Sunday with a recognition of their own his torics, with possibly an inter-faitl church service at East Park in the afternoon.
