FAVOR LIQUOR SALE BY Iowa Union Labor Takes Stand With Restaurant Owners Group. DES MOINES, (fP)--Iowa union labor took its stand Satui-day with the Iowa Restaurant Owners association in favor of "strictly regulated" liquor sale by the drink. Union labor leaders met here with J. C. Lewis, state union labor federation president, and indorsed the "Beck plan," which restaurant owners claim would replace illegal dine-drink-dancu honky-tonks they say now violate liquor law with modern eVevy bars. The plan was originated by E. G. Beck, secretary of the Restaurant Owners' association. It would provide for "local option," would prohibit dancing and the sale of food in places where liquor is sold nd would confine such places to ommercial districts. The union labor leaders agreed lat under the present system of iquor control, "hard liquor is sold n all kinds of places" and that "it s impossible to prevent such sale because a sufficient number o£ persons want liquor by the drink o make it profitable for (lie law o be violated. 1 The union proposal, like that ot lie restaurant association plan would provide that the places licensed to sell by the drink woulc buy their liquor from the liquoi commission, which also would be in charge o[ licensing. WASHINGTON, (fP)--Congress miiy get a chance to decide whether "Home, Sweet Home" to future members will be a huge community dwelling project, complete from ball rooms to napkin rings and sunken gardens. AH the house and senate have to do to start the $6,000,000 project is enact a bill Representative Beiler (D-N. Y.) plans to offer Monday. The idea is to get lower rents. The social niceties involved in determining who will get top floor, back, and who first floor, corner, remain to be threshed out. Tudor Gothics Style. But all the rest of the details have been taken care of by Beiter. He even has the architect's drawings, by John Parke Almond ot Little Rock, Ark. The layout would be something like this: The buildings, in tudor Gothic style, would form a cross with maximum dimensions o£ 1,270 by 700 feel. A hotel would form the top of the cross. Ills 200 feet would make it the tallest building in Washington aside from the capital, which is 287 feet high. Around the edges of the cross would be four, six and eight story apartments and 66 two-story row houses. 5100 Monthly Rent. Altogether there would be some 2,000 rooms and 654 units of 2 to 7 ·ooms. For a furnished unit of two bed- ·ooms, living room, dining room, dlchenet and bath, Beiter estimated the rent would be about $100 a month. A corporation of senate and louse members would borrow the money for the project from the reconstruction finance corporation. NOTICE OF SHERIFF'S SALE STATE OF IOWA. Ccrro Gorclo County, ss.
